For clarification of what happened: in the Mafia PT for Gameshow Mafia, momo directed insomnia to falsely claim that he was going through a family emergency in all games he is currently playing. insomnia did this. This is in clear violation of site rules in that it brings out-of-game influences to other games. momo and insomnia purposefully affected other games to gain an advantage in Gameshow mafia.

To be clear: it is expressly against site rules to conspire to post something in a game to gain an advantage in another game. Do not do this. You will get banned.

momo was abusing his position as an experienced player to convince a new player to break site rules. insomnia received a ban, albeit a less severe one, because ignorance of the rules does not excuse rulebreaking. If it is reasonable that a new player did not understand the rules, the mod team will punish them in a less severe way. Our goal is not retribution, but behavior change.

As an aside, on our forum it is embedded in the site culture that we trust other player's claims of IRL issues. The fact of momo's rulebreaking is made more severe due to him knowingly exploiting this gentleman's agreement. We do not accept players on this site abusing the basic decency of other players and when appropriate it will always be a contributing factor in ban decisions.

Garmr has been indefinitely banned from mafia games for posting moderator communications in a mafia game and for violating the discussion of replacing out rule. He had been banned previously for very similar behavior.

Do not post moderator communications. There are some rules on this site that we have for mafia games that are to make them more enjoyable (toxicity, etc.) and some that are to preserve the integrity of games. This is the latter. We cannot afford to allow any wiggle room or leniency on repeat offenses of the latter type.

These bans are holistic in nature; the incident in Doubles Mafia is only the most recent for both users. It is not the cause, in and of itself, for these bans.

We would like to remind all users that inciting toxicity, participating in toxicity, and escalating toxicity are all considered to be unacceptable behavior by the administrative staff. The fact of someone else breaking a rule does not give you license to do so yourself, and responding disproportionately is the greater offense.

As a note: do not use the pronoun field in your user bio for hostility or even apathy about gender diversity. If it becomes clear that you are using the pronoun field in this way, you will be subject to moderator action that can escalate to site-wide bans. This includes but is not limited to using the pronoun field for pronouns that you do not actually use and ignoring the listed pronoun in other users' profiles. Site moderation is trying to become more responsive to attacks against trans users. We have been exercising an abundance of caution in policing specific language so as to not accidentally punish users who are acting in good faith. This is still an area of difficulty, but this message serves to inform you that we intend to be more proactive in punishing transphobia.
