Eh. I rarely do anything that's
completely
non-serious in this game, but this is definitely on the low end of the scale.

I realize I'm kind of late to the chatter game, but I'm very new to this style of Mafia.
I've played a game like it in 2015 but eventually moved to dedicated forums to hopefully have some fun with it here.

Are we finally out of RVS? I can't tell if it's because teacher made the big post pushing discussion or because the game's slightly gone quiet the past two days before that post. Either way, here are my thoughts on who I can actually form thoughts on at the moment

I'm leaning town on teacher for the big discussion push post, but I would like to know his reasoning for voting me as soon as winged did.

Espeon I'm assuming will vote later because they weren't in the RVS early wave I guess? I'm probably going to hold their opinion with a bit more weight, not because they're IC, but because they deliberately haven't voted.

The rest I either have neutral reads on atm or just dont have enough info to lean on something just yet.

I used this account's email to register before finding out the email was already in use, I didn't actually make a new account, I just remembered I had an old one I made in 2013 and never used it so I'm using it now.

I'm not sure I understand this pushing the conversation forward concept. People are saying that some people have townreads, but honestly I don't feel like I grok the reasoning being used for that. My current vote seems as good as any.

In post 45, teacher wrote:Ive never been the one to have to push conversations; I normally sign on and do one analysis post a day while others are whizzing past me in post count. But, man, is it dead in here, so I guess I will give it a shot.

I assume from the delayed start that not all players confirmed. And Dakster agreed to replace in but didnt post. Weirdness all around.

Since its a newb game, I will start with what little of this site's meta I have learned. It tends to favor quicker posts, with fewer words, and reads without much explanation (I disagree with this meta and tend to be longwinded in one post, but Im a lawyer and so get paid by the word :P).

Regarding voting, lynching, and claiming: Right now it takes 5 votes to lynch. Do NOT provide the fifth vote without advance warning, absent a crashing deadline. You want to give the lynch target enough time to claim PR if they are one. If you are VT, consider whether or not claiming PR helps town -- it could out a real PR by a counterclaim, or put a real PR at risk if they are the counterwagon. I frown on it personally, but different sites have different metas. Here, as a site, it is very strongly frowned upon for town to fakeclaim (wiki search lynch all liars).

Regarding reading: My personal strategy focuses on motives, probabilities, and associations. For each post, I try to ascertain the motive behind it. Does it seem town-motivated or scum-motivated. To be sure, both town and scum have similar objectives, but they arent overlapping. Town is not as afraid of being lynched, because there will be a mislynch at some point; scum knows that their death is 50% of a loss. Town wants to out real analysis to advance the game; scum wants to repeat information that everybody knows so they can appear to be helping without actually doing it. Another key area of difference is in probabilities. Here, I cant say it much better than a strategy article from the wiki: Use Occam's Razor with the knowledge that scum thrive on possibilities. Associations I will talk about after D1 if Im still kicking.
Very much depends on the playerlist and momentum of the game.

I think this game really just needs a good argument, but there's nothing really jumping yet.

What was with the forced question on an RVS vote? It was jarring, and feels forced. Like busywork scum might do.

@Espeon:
You mean me asking you if why you haven't RVS voted? That was actually just small talk to keep convo and the thread going. Most people RVS'd except you so I just decided to use it as a topic.

I'll say this, the more forced thing that I did was the "What do you have in your defense?" to Invis, but I did that only to start some kind of convo. I didn't actually have a read on him or anything there at the time, it was half in jest due to RVS and half to start a discussion.

It wasn't a total joke, in the sense that I actually wanted to start a discussion, not legitimately accuse him as scum.

But even then that attempt didn't work, or I guess it did, since it's gotten people talking about what I did.

teacher actually seems to have done more to push some discussion though so I'm still leaning town to him. What about you Espeon, any reads so far? What does town pushing with conviction mean to you?

Ah. Well you got me there with mine, but I was sort of doing mine for a different reason than pushing. Were you just talking about me or teacher's too?

Actually while I'm at it,

@Teacher I still wanna know if you had an actual reason voting for me or if it was an RVS vote. Because it seems RVSy since you talked about "any other pastimes", but at the same time it happened just after winged gave a serious vote to me.
