@platfleece, who are you townreading? details are in above question to xander for how to answer this

would also like to state that i did not like how your early question here read to me... it definitely pegged my scum radar.
In post 24, platfleece wrote:What do you have to say in your defense Invisibility?
the problem i have here is it reads like you are trying to beget a scummy response, and town should never ever have any incentive to do that.

however, there are several lurkers it seems right now. so consider yourself lucky i’m not ready to zero in on you yet

let me reword that because i failed to finish it. it reads like you are trying to beget a scummy response so that you can take advantage of it. it’s not conducive for town’s purposes to make posts that consist of only those precise words; they can defend themselves on their own terms, and lack of defense is worthy of a potential policy lynch if severe enough

@invisibility: i can link you to 2 right away, but they were not on this site.

note: i’m the deactivated account on there that shows up as jb23241. the username i went by on the forum, though, was liucci.

same deal as above with deactivated account. my partner and i won this newbie scum game. this one is very similar to a newbie game, so you could get feels for a how a scum me would play in a game like this potentially; only difference with this game is i’m on town’s side.

@Xander - you seem to be reading most things but have not provided your own thoughts. Surely you have had to have some reactions to Invis, Plat, or me?
I've been thinking about this a lot. Intially I had some things that I somehow missed (like what RVS stood for? Random Vote Stage?) What does "scummed" mean? So many terms so fast!

Plat:
@Teacher I still wanna know if you had an actual reason voting for me or if it was an RVS vote.
I am trying to decide if this seems like Plat is pushing for information, or is defensive about being voted for. They don't really seem to be in danger of being lynched so being defensive is a bit odd from what I understand.

However:
@Teacher:
Random possibly Newbish thought, with the Daskter newbie slot being replaced twice now, how likely do you guys think the slot itself is scummy?
This post really unsettles me. It seems like a really big leap to be making. Is it common for new players to be scared off by being mafia, and then just leave instead of having to be hunted? It seems like a stretch to me. So, I am definely eyeing Plat

Teach:
This town better get its poop in a group.
This is a statement that is odd to me as well. The town better get it's stuff together? Not "we had better get our stuff together" or "we should work together". Is this indicative that you aren't town?

I don't think that Invis has made a post longer than a tweet. I don't get any read from that.

WingedCat is on a .. leave of absence?

Everyone keeps saying that "so and so" is moving the town perspective forward. But the only person who has done something which has helped me understand or move my understanding forward is StunGun.

So to sum it off, I am wondering about Plat, and to a lesser extent teach but that might just be me not understanding how people here.

@stungun and @Xander:

I think I can answer both your questions at once.

Starting from Stun's question, my townreads so far are really only teacher, however the next post from him seemed iffy enough to get scum points from me.

Now Xander's question. You'll notice I didn't really bat an eye at Winged voting me, but I questioned why Teacher voted me. It has to do with timing and what's called "bandwagoning". Teacher voted me almost as soon as Winged voted me, and has the potential of starting a bandwagon. Teacher also said that he that he was both pressuring me AND looking for a bandwagon follower.

In my experience with Mafia games, a bandwagon to shut off discussion early and mislynch someone is very much a Mafia-sided play. Less time for Town to talk, less information being gathered. eager wagon hoppers usually ping my radar, so I wanted to know if teacher had a legitimately good reason of voting me with that timing.

On second readthrough of my post, this part might be confusing.

To expand on this for Xander and anyone else, Teacher is basically looking out for the same thing I was asking him about, potential bandwagon hoppers.

I'll say that his reasoning of eyeing the same scumread as Esp didn't convince me of why he voted as soon as Winged did, since I was looking for any independent reason that isn't "What X said was scummy", so when he said he also wanted to see who was potentially going to hop on my wagon, it convinced me a bit more of his Towniness.

He still has scummy points for the timing though, just not enough to flip my read of him to scum. So if he was 50% Town to me, he's now 25% Town. Still Town, but less than I thought of before.

In post 99, stungun0404 wrote:@teacher, as invisibility could probably attest to, i am definitely the type of player that likes to drive discussion forward. because you seem like a very analytically adept player, i’ll ask you: if you had to make an early crack at possible scum partners, who would they be?
Im going to very blatantly dodge your question, which I hope was just bait. In a game where your slot hadnt talked at all, Pickles still hasnt, and Iso/Winged/Xander have 18 posts including RVS between them, it is impossible to create teams. Also, I have a tendency to build elaborate theories pre-D1 flips, every single one of which has been proven wrong, so now try to hold my associational hunting for D2+ once I have info from flip(s) and can do VCA (vote count analysis).
In post 105, Xander wrote:So many terms so fast!
Definitely feel free to raise this kind of stuff, as that is part of the purpose of a newb game. Here is a glossary.
In post 105, Xander wrote:Is this indicative that you aren't town?
No. I take your point on the semantics of it, but can tell you in my seven games of online mafia (four? here) I have not seen a scumslip that obvious, so in general would view the language as NAI (non-alignment indicative). I think I chose to distance myself from town in that post because I was getting really frustrated at the lack of posting, but also didnt focus on the language because I was more giddy like a 5 year old to use the expression "in a group."

@stungun

I'll be completely honest, I'm swimming as I'm trying to catch up on the 'context clues' of everyone in this thread. I'm trying to figure out who's who, let alone what I'm supposed to be doing, so it's hard for me to plant a read on anyone.
So, um, no? But I don't know what I'm looking for, so.

Isolato, it helps to ask questions. As people answer them, you can determine if they’re honest and trying to figure things out, or lying and already know things. Is there anyone you think is definitely telling the truth or lying so far?

@Irrelephant11
I went ahead and tried to go back through the thread, just to get a read on people.
I'll provide my analysis based on that?

pg. 2 Invisibility calls out Platfleece and Teacher as early townreads, due to them "pushing along conversation".
And I can see the reasoning; Mafiascum, I'm assuming, wouldn't care if there was much of a conversation because they do their killings at night, right? Whether the town lynches or not isn't a concern, considering they're going to kill someone at night and slowly chip away at a victory.
I'm okay with the Platfleece read, but as for Teacher I'm unsure, because they do just seem like a genuinely helpful person who wants to help out the newbies at the game?

I realize I didn't answer your question, but I still don't know what I'm looking for or what questions to ask.
Also, someone asked me to add an avatar and I finally got around to it. I'm artistically inclined, just lazy.

i townread invisibility already (his gameplay has a townfeel to it), as well as teacher who seems to have a town motive to the way he’s pushing the game forward.

as for scum, feeling platfleece as a possibility, but i need to investigate further before i would vote them. i think they already have a few votes.

for now, i’ll VOTE: isolato, would like to see more from their slot, just like several others playing. i realize my slot has been mia, but i can make up for it, so hakuna matata!
elaborate the invis townread. There is nothing memorable at all from his play afaik

@picklepaige: in , you mention being excited about playing mafia. however, you haven’t appeared for 5 days now. where’s that excitement now? please don’t tell me it’s in the scum pt (unless you’re scum of course, then i’ll take it)!

@espeonage, do you have any early scumreads? see no mention of scumreads in your posts so far.

@xander, townreads are used to help eliminate possible scum suspects, so they are vital in the long run so you can zero in on particular players being scum. basically, you look for something that suggests that player a is pushing forward a town perspective, or for details that suggest player a is guilt-free. A lot of the time I use townreads to their maximum advantage to limit my potential lynch pool. Do you see anything in this thread that suggests that a certain player is pushing forward a town (guilt free/not “trying to be town”, but rather being it) perspective?
Not really.
