I'll be completely honest, I'm swimming as I'm trying to catch up on the 'context clues' of everyone in this thread. I'm trying to figure out who's who, let alone what I'm supposed to be doing, so it's hard for me to plant a read on anyone.
So, um, no? But I don't know what I'm looking for, so.

@isolato: i like that you acknowledged my question even though you didn’t feel you could directly answer it — gives off plausible newb-town vibes; i’m hoping this hunch, though, can be furthered in terms of alignment-indicativeness regarding your standing in the game by your replacement answering it fully.

sidenote: with each replace-in, this game is seeming identifiably less and less of a ‘newbie’ game because experienced players seem to be taking the replace-in opportunities. :-/

@invisibility, thanks for responding! i can help you out with a pro-tip: i would definitely ask questions as town or scum, because either way i have a clear intent of seeking out further information. the overall focus of the questions is what i feel would distinguish my townplay and scumplay — does it seem as though i am mainly focused on getting town alignment-indicative responses? or does it seem like i am mainly focused on getting scum alignment-indicative responses? if you get my drift, the first would indicate that i’m likely town. the second would indicate that i’m likely scum. so, if i were you, i’d look at the general focus of my questions now to find AI content out of the questions, and if you aren’t feeling solid on your current gameread of me—continue to challenge this line-of-thought as the game progresses.

@teacher, i completely understand you dodging my question—i feel if anything you had a very town intent for dodging it. but, i would like you to answer this question come d2, when you have more information to go off of!

Starting from Stun's question, my townreads so far are really only teacher, however the next post from him seemed iffy enough to get scum points from me.

teacher is a solid townread choice, but the problem i have here is you are parroting the townread several players have stated so far as your only townread with little-to-no acknowledged backing—so this provides very little substance in terms of driving the game forward. honestly, driving the game forward should be your motive right now if you are town. plus, i would like you to take an original stance for a townread, because TR’ing teacher is just such an easy choice for a scumplayer to make at this point. a scumplayer would have to provide minimal content to support this stance, because it’s already widely supported that teacher is town, so any scumplayer would be sacrificing absolutely zilch by stating him as their clear townread. thus, my scumhunting initiative is leading me directly to you.

@teacher, who among the lurkers do you feel is most likely town?

i’d consider current lurkers to be any slot with less cumulative posts than the mod—which would be defensible. (technically, that would make me one, but so be it).

@nexus, what are your thoughts on espeonage? i don’t see you have provided any yet.

@irrelephant, between espeonage and nexus, which do you feel is more likely to flip town?

nexus - I don't think either of them have done a ton to earn a townread, but espeonage is expected to do better as IC. Meanwhile, if the scumteam included either espeonage or platfleece (which I think it definitely might), I don't see scum!Nexus calling them out so early

I agree with you, the logic you provided doesn't really lead me towards Plat. Also your theory about OMGUS in advance completely went over my head.

@xander: So, basically the theory of OMGUS’ing in advance is as follows: OMGUS = oh my god you suck, and it refers to a type of vote a player lays down. Basically, it’s where you react to a person voting you, because well, they are voting you. Thus they either ‘suck’ at being town, or they are scum—that’s the theory behind it.

Teacher hypothesized in 166 and 168 that platfleece was setting up an instance where if somebody were to vote platfleece — then platfleece was already at the stage mentioned by teacher—setting herself up to follow that vote by in turn voting that player back. because they’re obviously scum if they are voting her, right?

and the more i think about it, the more i am coming to the clear conclusion that i cannot possibly see a scum member making a theory like that. thus, teacher is town that i would place as such heavily against attack. why would scum ever be concerned about a player setting up an OMGUS-voting incidence in advance? i can think of no answer to that. it defies all logic for that to be a scumplayer’s concern.

i want somebody to actively think against my logic, though, so that we can cover all bases.

@klick: i would like to enlist your service for this. given my logic, do you see any possible case where teacher is scum?

@stun: So your argument is essentially that teacher's scumread on plat goes into a detail that scum wouldn't bother looking into? I disagree. Something to keep in mind is that teacher claims to be a lawyer on the second page. I don't think his case is anything out of the ordinary for him to point out as either alignment. This reasoning doesn't convince me.


The first thing that sticks out to me in this game upon a fresh read is a townread on plat. I think a lot of the heat he's currently taking is largely based on personality quirks being read as suspicious. His thought process seems genuine and like he does want to find who's scum. The way he's currently playing reminds me a lot of my first game on the site (in which I was town and also came under a lot of suspicion early on). Particularly the interactions between plat and Espe in pages 2-3 gave me good vibes. He keeps trying to gain information when he gets wagoned - it's just that he uses his wagon as the means to get that info. Focusing on one's own wagon can easily come across as defensive and scummy, but I get a townread from it.

thing that sticks out is a strong Espe townread for the way he handles the entire plat wagon. I particularly like that we came to similar conclusions about plat's reaction to his vote. Espe's my top townread.

He currently seems to be trying waaay too hard to be the face of town activity and discussion. He's posting a bunch of things and going "this is what a good town player looks like!" and fitting perfectly into this model he's trying to set up for strong town play. He wants everyone else to step it up and engage, but his actions are saying differently - he's being an overwhelming force that's blocking out activity from other players.

...interesting. I’ll note that I’ve posted in this game wayyyy less often than I’ve posted in any other game I’ve touched onsite. If I come across as overwhelming, maybe it’s because more than half the player list has prodged and been replaced for like three or four days straight

Klick, Im fine with your Plat read (I disagree but can see where you are coming from), but want you to expand on Espe. Comparing them to meta was really problematic for me. I also dont see any real effort to sort or solve - she unvoted and hasnt tried to do anything except prodge since. Why is she the hardest townread outside of the plat wagon/unvote.

Very likely town. Not taking any low hanging fruit. Disagree and don’t understand read on Espe, but if that was the partner I don’t think he’d defend Plat. Disagree but understand read on Plat so that’s a nonissue for me. Don’t mind the vote on you - again seems contrary to scum desire to set up two easier town wagons.

"Not taking any low hanging fruit" is exactly my problem in a game that's >50% low hanging fruit. I don't like how she is voting one of the most talkative players in this very quiet game. Obviously I also don't like that that happens to be me, but if (for example) I get lynched and you (teacher) are nightkilled, there won't be much of a conversation left to analyze come D2.
