well you know it's not over yet, im sure there are plenty of conceivable ways to still turn it around. maybe aliens invade in 2020 and the "space force" saves humanity

I'd just assume it was a coordinated plot to spike his approval ratings and get him re-elected like 9/11 did for Bush, except intentional collusion and poorly executed.

Or, the aliens assume he's representative of all of us and decide to raze the planet for everyone's sake.
