Why is self-voting a town tell for you?

I wouldn't self-vote as scum because I wouldn't want newbies to get the idea that self-voting is scummy or harmful. I self-voted specifically to show them that it's NAI & harmless. I've been making a big deal about this lately in other games & the mafia discussion forums.

I'm serious when I said U2's scum. His suggestion that I'm scum while voting someone else was awful, & I'm skeptical that he'd completely ignore my self-vote as town. I'd appreciate if all of you responded to this read with your thoughts.

Why is the first thing awful? I'm new to the site and to forum mafia in general, so I'm probably going to show my ignorance here, but it seems like a normal example of the kind of goofiness characteristic of RVS.

Not sure if shoshin was angling at the same thing but basically: rvs is fun and an optimal way to start the game via reading reactions and watching voting patterns form. But it's also a but lulsy and lighthearted and the longer it goes on, the less integral information information town has.

For example if I vote shoshin outside of rvs, it stands to reason I think 1) she is scum, or 2) we will get a good reaction out of wagoning her. If I wagon her while still firmly in rvs, it's like.. "lol wagons!" if you get what I mean? The fact we have no content so we're encouraged to start generating it means we do stuff which we don't believe in as much as we would outside rvs, which makes people harder to read by default.

By this virtue bringing the game OUT of rvs as soon as possible is optimal; polarising the player list about a certain issue, or even overstating a scumread a little to get reactions, can be incredibly +town


so what shoshin is saying here basically is urap2 should have considered that she was scum given he didn't believe her townclaim as much as he believed mine, yet didn't vote her. I think. that's how I'm reading it at least
