it's unfortunate that i'm struggling to find the right words explaining why, though
i'll try — i guess the gist is that if you do accept the premise that chenn is rather deeply incompetent as others itt seem to have implicitly, then in my intuition his scumplay as a novice shouldn't really look like this per se but either be more confident / less reflective OR more sparse/reactive — in either case quite a bit more rigid. I'm seeing here a mix of fluidity and contemplation that just doesn't match an incompetent scum read, which seems like the only possible kind of scumread at this point after that "oh i thought i was hammered episode". I'm finding it hard to believe that it was a really hamfisted scumslip as nom suggested rather than, like, what happens when someone who's taking the game super casually skims the thread too quickly. I myself as someone also pretty intermittently engaged atm w/ the details of the game had the intuition that many more people were voting chenn before I saw the mod's votecount. This read of his posting matches with the kind of personality he exhibited with his hackneyed catch-up style after he replaced in and other foibles. It feels a lot more coherent than a "he's scum" interpretation of his behavior.
I think chenn is probably just a distraction. Rather like N_M when N_M is town.
