Quite simply I think he sees what I see in Hopkirk and I find it both saddening and mildly surprising that no one else has pointed it out (profii came close but it wasn't enough -- won't hold it against the guy though). As for you, JJD, you're a capable scum hunter, so why are you looking for low activity, low hanging fruit rather than making a case based on what the words right in front of you? Sell me on the idea that us "not actually playing the game" by default have more scum equity than, say, Hopkirk, Elements, or Roster, and I may forgive you. But for now you've began to lose my trust. I went and quickly skimmed your post couldn't find like any scum reads only town reads. Do you think the entire scum read is in this list?

Just looking through the roll list and sorting people into 1 of three categories this is what I come up with

Town - Cliff, Rick, Hectic, Eevee, Gamma, Hop, carca, profii
Null - Kop, Billy, Fish, garmr, dave, bob, skellen, youare
Scum - Sharon, JJD, roster, Tchill

After our interactions so far I can't say I understand why I'm the first thing that comes to mind for "town". But I'm flattered.

The reason you're first is because your name in the first in the player list on page one that I think is probably town.
It's not an ordered list. Just a quick gut sorting into piles.

@Billy: I notice you didn’t seem to respond to my argument that if town didn’t get coloured pms then neither did scum, so it’s not possible to ‘townslip’ based on pm colour. Do you still count the ‘townslip’ as a townslip?

Just started reading the last two days. So picked one of the shorter ISO to start reading the thread. With me choosign rooster as I had played a game with him where he was scum.

I do remember in that game he did make a fair few naked votes.

Doesn't large balance do with either prs or more scum?
I'm not talking about lousy things like godfather or rolecop though.

Are we talking about setup now?
I was thinking something like 4 mafs - 2 or 3 power roles maybe rolecop and roleblocker maybe an x shot strongman, an SK or other anti-town third party, 3 -5 town power roles based on strength - 1 or 2 investigative roles (watcher and tracker would be a fun combo) maybe a protective role like doc or bg, possibly 2 or 3 masons. With 3 though, I'd expect one to be mafia for funness.
So maybe something like:
1/2 invest, 1 protective, 1/2 utility - Town
1 invest, 1/2 utility - Mafia
Third party - maybe bulletproof of some description

Are you saying someone like Fish Monger isn't good at scum? In my experience some scum will indeed wait for the thread to develop before they sneak in with more comfort. "I forgot this game was a thing", "I was busy all week and didn't get a chance to post" or something along those lines. Yes.. in my experience lurking is a mildly scummy sign that a town sign.

But let's push this all aside. Tell me something: Would you rather an active game of a half roster of lurkers game? What is the best time to get rid of dead weight? is it at the start of the game or more towards the end of it?

Me? I'm willing to lose the game in exchange of denying the lazy lurkers the chance to be rewarded for their lurking (not to mention raising my blood pressure and killing my motivation to play in the process).

If I was a Vig I would be shooting in that pool regardless of who we lynch or how they flip. If I knew there's a Vig I'd be directing them to shoot in that direction. Unfortunately, neither is the case and I'm left with only one option, which is to call for their lynch.

I mean, seriously.. games are lost

because

of letting lurkers be and concentrating on the active posters. Often enough that's a bunch of townies (with one active scum maybe) fighting each other because they don't know better. I want the rest if the players (almost half the player list) to become active and do some work too, or to be eliminated so we can be able to play a game of Mafia.

I always find early speculation helps scum. Felt to me like scum trying to see if they can get any pings for town power roles.


Of matter of question why did you choose 4 scum. You didn't spend any time deliberating how many scum just on possible scum and town roles.

I've been thinking about it since the start of the game. I started with a "what would I do" line of thinking then thought about balance and fun. General rule of thumb 1/4 of the players scum. SK is my favourite role so throw that in there leaving 4 spots for mafia.
