Macbeth sounds good - I'll just have to be careful not to read the forum in any of the theatres I work in...

Oh, and buffy mafia - it should be based on the musical episode, (which I just watched again...)

And before I forget - /me mocks Tal for liking dawsons creek...

Invader Zim sounds interesting enough, though I don't know about Johnny and squee, but ZIM is reason enough for me to play...

My ideas are based more around rule changes than themes. I dunno if this is the right thread or not.

Mostly Mute Mafia - Each player gets only 200 words per game-day with which to post, not counting votes and FOS's.

Make up your Mind Mafia - Players are not allowed to unvote. A day ends when one player has more votes than any other player could possibly get.

Two-headed Giant Mafia - players are grouped into two-person teams, and each team gets a single shared role (sk, townie, cop, doc, etc.) When one member of a team dies in any way, the other member dies too.

Sounds interesting, although I'd suggest you should test those ideas first in a mini, before you try a large game.

Well, the two-headed giant game would have to be a larger game in order to work, but the other two would be good for minis. It'll be awhile before I'm qualified to mod any of them anyways - for now I'm just throwing the ideas out there.

I'm in the normal game queue to run one something like this -- only I've called it "Siamese Twin" mafia.

Mostly mute would probably be similar to Limited Post Mafia... anything that DISCOURAGES posting, is probably bad for the game, I think.

I've toyed with the idea of no unvotes allowed, but it keeps coming back to making it so that once a person has voted, they have less interest in the game for that day and therefore might participate less.

I almost named it Siamese Twin Mafia, too. I'll look forward to playing in it, Meme.

Jeep, good point. I think I'd need fairly aggressive deadlining for either of these ideas, to combat the lack-of-posting problem. Either of these stipulations is definitely pro-mafia, so the role selections would have to give the town some advantages.

An alternative to mostly mute is totally mute, where the only things people can post are vote, unvote, FOS, unFOS, and emoticons. It would need very strict pacing to keep things going. But I bet it would be real interesting to see what happens if you pull all of the talking out of the game and reduce it to game mechanics and smiley faces. :o

As long as players were okay with viewing it as kind of a silly side game, I'd be so /in for that. It would especially neat if there were some pretty intricate roles...i.e. a very non-mountainous game. So much to convey, and such a small alphabet to do it with.

Great ideas, Speedy.

I think a great new mafia game would be one based on an innovative combination of flavor (theme) and rule mechanics.
There are so many questions I'd like to ask, but we are left watching the checkered board. Our eyes pass over the symmetry. I wish it were possible to achieve such mimicry, to move our pieces in peace ├óÔé¼ÔÇ£ my bishops to church, your wild horses to stable.

Once I have a few games under my belt, I have what I think is a good idea for a
Reservior Dogs
Mini - essentially with the cops as mafia and the thugs as townies. I think the flavor of the movie would fit the game well.

But that's just a n00bs 2 cents...

Would anyone be interested in
ESPY mafia
?
It would be based on ESPN's version of the Oscars. It would have sports athletes (characters) from various sports in the game--past (still living, so no Babe Ruth) and present (like Shaq). It would be played in theme market if enough interest is shown. The game would likely have 20-27 people. I will begin sign ups if approved by the mod list (as is the procedure) and when I have more modding experience, perhaps around March-April.

For my mini theme that is coming up, how about a Kingdom of Loathing mafia?
And for a diff. theme later on...Randomnominity? Basicalyl a bunch of random roles, although i'm afraid many will find this too similar to Mixed Them Mafia...

how about creature and period mafia?
A mixture of science class information and mafia agendas?
Learn about the theories on how we evolved from ooze and go through the age where the earths atmostphere was burnt away by the sun, and find the role that had the power to give people oxygen at night in order for them to build stronger bodies and grow shells and bone made of calcium etc instead of aragonite and other weaker substances!

Sound good?
What is the point of using foul language, downright rudeness, slurs, etc on a gaming site? This is really distasteful.

Pondering if anyone would be interested in co-writing and co-modding Wheel of Time mafia with me?
obvious requirements - some modding experience and and a relatively sound knowledge of WoT.
i have the ideas for what characters wuill be involved, and many of the mechanics of the game in place, but i really havent got the guts of the set up finsihed yet.

Interesting in theory, but the town would probably just start using FOS's as votes, with everyone making their vote after someone has a majority of FOS's.

I could help with WoT. Also, Speedy, a possible elaboration of the Mute Mafia idea: The Game of Mao-fia. Not only is it mute, but the game starts with two mafia and 23 townies; every night a new role is added to the game, sometimes pro-town, sometimes antitown.
I think it's pretty clear that TSS's awesomeness did alter the roles each of us recieved, and thus he's obviously pro-town. -- Save The Dragons
