Elements would only claim vig if he had a killing role. So I doubt it if he was mafia (unless he was mafia with a specific kill in addition to the regular mafia kill), but he could be 3p or town.

I think a scumteam coaching him to claim vig (probably the only role we really really do not want to lynch today) seems pretty solid. Sure, they do lose him eventually, but it would net them a Titus or vork lynch today.
