usually when people announce a gladiate due to a past game in RVS it's not really a joke but the implication is that it kinda doesn't matter if the other person is town or scum, it's just an acknowledgement that you're gonna try to make them die no matter what

in this case you were joking and you have no such beef, or at least not nearly to the extent implied, but for people who don't really know you... I think you're assuming people would take that post in the manner you intended when they might take it as a totally straightforward "ima fite u" opening post

so it's not that people thought that you were saying you were both town, it's that it reads like you're saying you just don't care about his alignment, at least on the level of implication if not grammar
