The reason I think this is because ascetic is a helpful utility for scum and Pine also implied that he's some kind of PR in addition to being an ascetic enabler. I'm just setup speccing here, but that would give scum an interesting dilemma to deal with if that ever comes out and one of them was ascetic.

Scum could withhold their ascetic claim, but then they're likely to get caught in the lie whereas claiming it right away might give them townpoints.
