I think this is saying that saying "I did would have done X but scum did Y so I can't be scum" kind of self-defense which is generally really scummy in some circumstances

Follow up on this actually: So do you agree with Hoopla's premise or are you just giving your interpretation of what it meant?

Just my interpretation, I think it's just as likely town saying that to try and derp-clear themselves as scum would.
