This game is based off the video game Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Playing this game may spoil the plot, but knowing the plot is not required to function.
This game will have somewhat tight activity requirements - even during night phases, that require everyone to pay at least a little bit of attention.
General Mechanics
There are
17 Town Players
and
5 Mafia Players.
There are no third parties.
Mafia may communicate with each other at all times.
Mafia may perform factional kill in conjunction with any other abilities unless otherwise specified.
There are four broad classifications of roles:
Driver
,
Blade
,
Driver/Blade
, and
Special
All players will Flip as <Player Name>, <Character Name>, <Alignment> <Classification>. No abilities will be shown in a flip.
Unless otherwise specified, assume that any X-shot abilities are non-refundable if they fail.
Day Mechanics
Days will be 10 real life days long.
Day play is standard. Players vote as normal, and simple majority is eliminated and flips as normal; game proceeds to night.
Night Miscellany
Night is separated into four discrete periods, and as such night will last a total of 96 hours rather than the normal 48. I promise that everyone at least has
something
to do at night.
Because of the shortness of some phases, there will be a buffer period where I officially declare the start of night post flip.
If a character is classified as a Driver/Blade, they can only ever perform one of the two roles in a single night.
The Mafia factional kill operates separately from the Driver/Blade mechanic.
Any characters classified as
Special
reserve the right to operate completely outside of Driver/Blade constraints.
There may be other Active or Passive abilities in the game that are external to the Driver/Blade mechanic.
Blade Abilities resolve as if the
Blade
is performing the ability for purposes of action resolution
There is no standard for how investigative results are distributed to Driver/Blade pairs - all abilities will specifically disclose this information.
Night Mechanics
I reserve the right to lengthen any of these phases or delay the start of Night entirely to account for holidays. My desire is not to create a situation where someone missed actions because they don't have time to play.
Phase 1
: Sunset (12+ hours). Any
Drivers
will choose a player they want to link up with by PMing it to me. For the link to be successful, this player must be acting as a
Blade
the same night. Drivers may pre-submit this choice to me any time prior to night start. Drivers are NOT required to attempt a link. Drivers may preload this choice to me on the previous day phase.
Phase 2
: Evening (24 hours). Any
Blades
that received
Driver
applicants will be notified. Blades may only pick one of them, and must pick exactly one of them to link with. Drivers will be listed in the order submitted, and if the Blade does not submit a choice, the first Driver in the list will be selected.
Phase 3
: Night (48 hours). Any resulting
Driver
/
Blade
pairs will then be given a Neighborhood that lasts for the next 48 hours, after which it will be permanently closed. During this time, the
Driver
may select the target of the
Blade Ability
that the
Blade
will use that night, of which only the Blade knows (and may advertise to the driver if they wish). The
Driver
may change this target any time during that phase. Otherwise, the two may talk.
Phase 4
: Dawn (12+ hours). The Neighborhood is now locked, and the
Blade
member of the pair may then choose to use a Blade Ability that they possess, usually targeted against the
Driver's
target. Blades may possess more than one Blade Ability, but only ever may use a maximum of one per night. Some Blade Abilities may ignore the Driver's target or not require a target at all. This choice may be preloaded during Night via PM, but be aware of the final target chosen by the Driver.
Blades
may preload this choice to me in the previous night phase, either unilaterally or conditionally based on the target chosen by the
Driver
(e.g. "If Driver chooses Player X, use <ability>, but if Driver chooses Player Y, do nothing")
At the end of Dawn, all night actions will be processed, and Day will start.
