He hasn’t. What has he done? Nothing, basically. He’s lazily tunnelled my slot on weak evidence, resolutely refused to do any meaningful work sorting the playerlist besides that, and has generally had an awful progression around the hammer that you noted yourself

Add that to the two most recently dead townies strongly expressing a belief that he’s scum, AND the fact that at worst we lose a VT who is doing nothing to help solve the game, and this is a no-brainer quite frankly

If "I picked up on her soft" was the true explanation, he could have just used that, which would free him up to claim whatever he wanted.
