They're not pointless and should definitely be done as it's a viable wincon, just not the de-facto wincon. Same as in game, you're trying to find the imposters and complete your tasks. It's a viable wincon, not the de-facto wincon and honestly I've rarely seen a game where it's a task win. This is why I'm more skeptical on BM's "HAH no scumhunting required"

one of the Imposters is cleared by town and only 1 is left in a pool of suspicion with 4 townies.
FTFY. Also Imposters 2 and 4 would be under suspicion at that point imo as one of them would have had to kill, meaning neither is clear. Crew 4, 8 and 2 would also be suspect as well.
Ohwait, is this assuming chaos theory and not organised chaos? Never mind, I see your point.
That said, this is a pretty valid point on using chaos. hmm... It also depends on if the rooms get new PTs every night I guess, or if admin or security has MIRA HQ style logs?

If it's like 5 people trying to group it's not much different than random is the point.
And no, I'm not sure everyone agrees this is bad. A lot of people keep saying things that make me think they
don't
actually agree this is bad.
Random means we don't accomplish tasks.
I'm not doing random. Period.
No so much random as in we just randomly disperse to an assigned room, more random in that we just all go to a random location based on individual choice. So lets say I head straight to storage for my looongboi task whch s gng t b fn t d - I don't know If anyone else is coming with me or where anyone else is going, and is thus a random distribution.

This doesn't work as scum only get one edible kill per night so Imposter 2 and 4 cannot clear each other. They'd both have to be in solo rooms to do that.
They claim they were in the same room, clearing for that nights kill. I got there eventually ^_^

If we just all do tasks willy-nilly,
2 town are going to die every night
and there will
not
be useful POE to figure out who killed them.
In exchange, we avoid giving scum information and we get the tasks done slightly faster. I don't think this is worth it, and I haven't actually seen an argument that it is, beyond vague handwaving and dogmatism.
I think you're fear mongering every so slightly.
I am trying to brain, and doing so badly. 10 rooms, 17 people...
Failing badly, I think relying on the odds is going to place us all in Gamblers Fallacy. It's like 1/20 of any two people being in the same room based on true randomness. Then its another 1/4 chance that the other person in the room with you is imposter.

Now we KNOW scum get a bonus NK if they get one of us alone in a room with them.
We want to avoid that - my strategy is to claim all rooms, figure out pathing, create accountability and a record of all movement so that we can avoid giving the scum an extra NK without them revealing to us exactly who is responsible.
If there's if we have Room A(3people) and Room B(3 people) - and 1 person from each room dies at night that means a double guilty in room A or B.
I don't want scum to get free NKs on us.
Now reck/outworld and some other folks believe its better if there is a fog of war and we can't see where everyone is going.
Their argument for this is "Well the mod must have accounted for this so it must be bad"
Like if the mod tells you that mafia get a bonus NK if they get in a room alone with you, why the heck would you not take steps to try to prevent this!?
like it just seems very silly to me for us to wander around alone and hope mafia dont find us when they spread out hunting.
We're not going to get everyones assignments, there's like 4 or 5 players against this plan.
Do you have a compromise idea? because you know, some of us are compromised at this point.

how many times do i need to reiterate that the mod wouldnt fucking tell us what scum's secret mechanics are to fuck with rooms
imagine this: scum have an ability to move someone out of a room against their will
we sort people into rooms of 3
we also tell scum what fucking groups we're sending to each location
scum use an ability to move someone out of a room, then use a vent to go over and kill them bc they know where they're going to be
now we come back, we had two kills anyway, we're suspicious of the person(people) that were supposed to be in a room with the kill target, and all we've done is tell scum exactly where we'll be, how many tasks each of us has, and where we have to do them
like for one fucking second take a moment to assume that just bc we know "scum can kill in rooms alone with people" doesn't mean "and yep that's it that's the extent of the mechanic now have fun gamesolving"
This is legit. I had not thought this through that far.
Game balance would probably limit how often it could be done.

I signed up because I was excited af to figure out ways to complete tasks while limiting our NK exposure.
I absolutely hate this line because it seems to assume that we are just going to ignore the tasks altogether and play hunt the bad guys
in that case we might as well all be in the cafeteria every night if we are going to just ignore the entire night action part of the game.
