Stuff's been bothering me off and on since day 1 and I keep thinking we're going to have an exchange where I suddenly and clearly see town-bork. This is all stuff he's been aware of, so I don't think I'm giving up any advantage in the meta arms race. Stuff he doesn't know (yet) about the evolution of my approach to reading him is not not making it into this wall.

He knows that a lot of my reads of him are based on how he reacts to being pressured. I express those reactions as "irritability", because that's what they look like to me. The underlying emotions may be something else, but to me, that's how they appear from the outside.

Most of his strong reactions, particularly to Prism are in town-bork range by that measure.

His reactions to me expressing concerns about him, not so much.

The difficulty here is that I was town against scum-him in the illicit game and he was close enough to my expectations of town-him that I kept shrugging off my concerns. And I was giving him plenty of info to figure what what was missing. Cabd and I were hydra-ing as morph in that game and his read went south well before mine did. And when my read did go south, zmuffin had a winning strategy planned out, and we followed the strategy, though acquiescing to our own elim the day before mxlo was not fun and not something I want to repeat!

In that game, he would jump on something that looked inconsistent and really go at us (usually me) until he was satisfied with the answer. This is sort of how our T-T interactions would go in the before-times. But, in those games, I knew precisely what allayed his suspicions and why he would back off. In the illicit game, there wasn't that kind of line-of-sight between the cause of his suspicions and the resolution of them. I was left feeling like he was basically reading me off of emotional reactions to his pushes, which was NOT how he read when we used to play together.

In this game, I've done my best not to give him emotional content to "sign off" on. And he's not pushed me very hard about my vaguely expressed concerns, especially after day 1.

I feel like I sort of launched this approach to reading him almost from the beginning, though I didn't come into the game with this as a plan for sorting him. And I also haven't pursued it as strongly as I should have, especially day 2.

The proximate cause of my urge is post . In the context of how I think he reads me, and how I know he expects me to read him, that response looks so anemic. I've been mulling over it and second guessing myself, but this is where I want to vote today.

Re me killing Cabd as scum. It's been a really long time since I've been scum against town-him. In one game I didn't nk him. In the other, I nk'd him on night 5, I think. He'd claimed even night vig and we couldn't risk him getting to another even night no matter what his reads of the remaining scum were. At that point, I may have been the last scum. There was a 3rd game but I was the day one elim in that one, and he was an unknown quantity. I would have focused on known threats if I hadn't been elimed before the first night phase.

What would I do in Year of our Lord 2020? I think it would depend on how long I thought I could maintain his townread.

I don't know! He spotted scum-me off one post in a newbie game I replaced into. It was a BAD post, but still. He wasn't in that game and I wasn't trying to tailor my play to him.

Though I probably should just assume he and everyone else who's into fresh ffery meta is always looking over my shoulder in every game.

It's really hard to put myself into scum-mindset even when I'm scum. I ~think~ I would have felt ok based on his yesterday read. But, given some of the stuff he was crumbing at me on day 1, I might very well have NKed him on N1.

btw that bad post of mine in the newbie game was the reason he jumped all over your catch up post with the duplicate line in it. He even called it out to me because he expected I'd see it too and agree with him.

Can you quote a few specific posts/times throughout the game where you feel you where taking this approach to him and/or where you feel like his response to you was off

(I.e. one or two examples of both would be helpful)

I don't feel like pooky is attempting to solve the game; he has put some reads down but I don't see sufficient analysis coming about any of them and I doubt I'm going to find anything more substantial than "I don't like the attitude behind literally any vote he's made this game"

I don't know where else to look. I think noddy, you, ffery, vax are all reasonably town. DGB being a fourth PR claim is something I'm considering but if she is what she says she is I think she set up the ways to prove that from the getgo pretty well.

It could still be Prism; I'm not sure what the hell prism is doing at this point but at this point I'm probably psychologically incapable of getting into another argument w/ Prism without just wanting to not play this game anymore.

I basically saw I missed my chance to just instahammer and now I'm just waiting until I get the motivation to read, which might be 2021 or 2022.

I did check balance in normals and DGB probably isn't autoscum for it after all but eh I'll leave my vote for now.

Right, but why is this town indicative?

I hate to make the case against myself here but you just watched me obsess over a game for months as town, pouring over the entire 180 page game like 6 times, while in my most recent scumgame I outright abandoned Isis and refused to play because I thought the town wasn't worth playing against. Even back in 2018's The Thaw that I linked earlier I called my scumgames "surgical snoozefests" so I don't exactly have a record of excitement.
