okay so the reason we like talking a lot is because by encouraging a meta where we all talk a lot it makes it easier for town to figure out who the other towns are and who the scum are with a much higher degree of accuracy than if we all just sat around pointing votes at each other

If you don't make some effort to try and find the scum we won't know you're doing that and will think you are scum

Your reads will generally improve if they are based on interactions with other people, and through that process other people will also be able to read you. This assists with both of the primary objectives for town dayplay, which are:
1. Find scum.
2. Convince other people that you are town

town is in fact appropriately strong. My role is legit ridiculously so strong it can singlehandedly win the town the game. Which is why I am so confident scum WILL kill me. (But while softing my role is all good and well, I do want to reiterate that hardclaiming it would actually be very bad on D1.)

I don't like all this softclaiming of having such a super strong role. This isn't how town handles having a strong PR on day 1

As long as what mastina says is true about most players pushing them as scum when she defends them are town then I don't think this is horrible logic either. The reasoning does make sense.

My problem is that I really do not trust mastina this game. And this is where the horrible logic comes in. If mastina is scum I doubt she defends her scumbuddy like this, meaning by association I would put you as town. If mastina is town then there is of course the factor of her being wrong but I'm finding I'm agreeing with her points to an extent and only not trusting her posts in general because I think she could be scum. So with a town!mastina I would likely be fully agreeing and putting you as town. So basically by the most roundabout weird and illogical way to read you, I think you're town now.

We emphasise dayplay here- obviously mafia are going to be careful to some extent however the part of the game we find fun, that we're all sitting around flexing our various levels of skill at, is finding the scum based on tone, deception cues, the votes that they make. Scum know who the other scum are. Lots of things show up in the subtext of posts that aren't intended, and ultimately, 90% of the time that scum are making a post, they are lying. They are pretending to be town that lacks the information that they have. And nobody is perfect at that. So, the game is to find those people.

To do that, we have to engage with each other.

When I say we emphasise dayplay, I mean we don't rely on power roles for our victories, and we don't just randomly vote around or play popularity contests either. We're actively hunting for scum.

Why are you deliberately obfuscating information in such a way as to prevent contribution to the town win condition?
Is your intent to purposefully deny the use of potentially your greatest weapon as a member of the town?

no and my best weapon is my vote not a readslist

But you do have people you believe are scum, therefore you do have reads and therefore you are capable of the creation of a reads list.

This holds true for myself as well, however, I find people see me as cold and suspicious. This is part of the reason why I adopted this caricature.

As town, your best weapon is your voice, my dear. Your vote is a projection of that voice, to add emphasis and conviction to your words.

The issue with the hatter at hand is that if we all approached this game in the same manner, there would be no progression. Not only are you required to locate the foul beasts that haunt this town, you have to show that you are town as well.

As you said, scum do indeed pick on the lurkers; but they will also proceed as you are currently. Endeavouring to give out minimal information, staying within the confines of the shadows, repeating what is already said to appease the ears of those who dare issue challenge...

I am one who dares issue challenge, and have no qualm bringing the spotlight firmly upon you so that I may attempt to discern your alignment.

You may do it but we have no proof of that. For all we know you're just blindly sheeping the vote and trying to stay under the radar. While scumhunting and sorting players is a major part of the game, another thing you need to realize is that other people are trying to sort you as much as you're trying to sort them. By being more vocal and transparent we are able to get a better read on you and if you're town we'll hopefully be able to see that. You're no use as town no matter how great of a scumhunter you are if you always get scumread and eliminated.

Another thing is if you truly believe someone is mafia you should want to convince others of that as well. If you want someone eliminated or just pressured you need to make sure the rest of town is on the same page as you.

I understand the struggle of not speaking much. What I found helped me was anytime I had even the smallest thought about the game, a person in the game, an event, or anything I would write it out and post even if it felt insignificant
