each group can be considered as allocating all of its group members to a choice once a majority forms within that group. so once 5 players in group 1 are voting for someone, it is as if 8 players are voting for them in a typical game, which is something that can produce a majority with the help of two more votes from other sources

That's not how I interpreted the above quote. My understanding is each individual vote counts as normal, except if a block reaches a majority within itself then ALL votes from that block are considered to be voting on that same player.

We can still wait for the mod to confirm which interpretation is the correct one, but it would ruin my troll if I was the one confused.
