Consider the thread locked. I seem not to have gotten those privileges as backup mod yet, but Day One deadline is expired.

The timer ticks down, precious seconds left to get those dessert bars plated in something other than a haphazard heap. Apparently there is a bonus for making a stable stack of five whole bars! But alas, no one completes that portion of the challenge.

The red numbers flash 00:00. Nine plates left on workstations for Val and Duff's scrutiny. And who would have thought it! Everyone worked harmoniously. No one's plate stands empty. Apparently everyone was so focused on their own concoctions, no one was accused of harboring devious intentions.

Duff and Val try each bar, with mixed results. Three of the nine contain bacon, cooked to varying degrees of excellence. But Duff eats all of them quite happily. Another mixes oregano and basil; two more add chilis to chocolate. Of the remaining three, one uses Gruyere cheese, one is infused with rosemary, and the final bar features black olives.

The judges review the day's offerings. Despite some minor differences of opinion expressed to allow the editing to stay ambiguous, they are clearly in agreement. The child bakers are called back in.

Duff gestures to Val in a 'go-ahead' motion. She announces, "We were just so pleased with everyone's offerings. Very savory indeed. So we felt like we needed to add some sugar back into the proceedings. No one is going home for this round!"

The children cheer. But Val isn't done yet. "Now remember, kids. There are still two ringers in this group. Two ringers, round two, two crusty old judges--" Duff's mouth drops open in feigned outrage, "--what could be better than two actual crusts? Next up, double-crusted pies! Get baking, kids!"

Time is shortening. Who will lattice taste victory in this round?

Forks clutched in fists, Val turns to Duff to ask, "Are you ready for this?"

"Totally!" He grins. "Because you know what's better than a really good pie crust?"

"What?"

"TWO really good pie crusts!" With a good-humored groan, Val calls in the first contestant.

All proceeds apace: a triple berry pie with latticework, a maple pear pie with a full double crust, a (rather soggy-bottomed) apple pie adorned with autumn leaves. But then...

The next pie tin is empty! Nothing but graham cracker crumbs and a green smear leading away from the pedestal toward the door. Val's face falls. "But your key lime pie looked like it was coming together so nicely! What happened?"

The contestant takes on the look of a deer in headlights. "I...I had a pie! I did! With a special double graham cracker crust!" But it was no use.

"Bakers!" Duff calls. "Come on in." When the horde of children is assembled, Duff proclaims, "We don't need deliberation time--one baker didn't give us a double-crusted pie, and so he has to go home. We'll miss him, with his friendly face around here!"

Eight left. Val perks up when the camera turns back to her. "I do declare...it's time for eclairs! Give us your best pate a choux!"

I seriously cannot mimic my town games at all, but take that as you will. Didn't you say you had done the large post?
