i'm not that mad but i do wonder how town wins this setup

i had hoped to make a setup that would be ~balanced-to-scumsided (and i think a non-con neap, basically a n2 cop, a little extra from the 1-shot detective, and a role that's almost useless but realistically fits well it's probably never getting yeeted, a gunsmith, was about where i wanted it balance-wise considering scum had no active powers), but also weird enough that it wouldn't be breakable by claims and would make players focus on dayplay.

this obviously backfired horribly, as the players instead decided to focus on mech and murder the power role claims. i'm not blaming the town for doing that, just saying it shows a different mindset behind designing a game vs actually playing in it.

as hard as i find it to believe that we're in a +mafdoc -vig universe, i find it even harder to believe that datisi would play such a cruel joke on us as giving us a gunsmith with no armed mafia. i'd rather lose based on the assumption that he wouldn't stoop to such levels than eat ourselves in a paranoid frenzy.

it's certainly thought-provoking, and there were definitely points where i was leaning towards "fuck the mechanics we should only be focusing on dayplay." town does hage a lot of firepower, but with such a mountain of WIFOM possibilities to sort through (# of unarmed scum, trustworthiness of a vig claim, etc) it feels a bit like giving a blind toddler a shotgun. i do think if we had caught one scum early we'd have been in a much better, maybe even town-favour position. town just needed that one flip to start peeling away the edges and we never got it. if nothing else this has definitely taught me that play-based voting reigns supreme on this godless website of lies and deception

I don't think overall it was a bad setup.
I've seen games in the past where mechanics have caused the loss and should have heavily considered this.

Town just got unfortunate with who was checked and when. Another try on this could always go town's way even with mechanics.
Night 2 town could have 2 players with guns, 1 doc, 1 killer and 1 VT.
Something like that just makes it hard for Scum to win this setup, not to mention the plausible combinations.

It's just taking it as another lesson, don't always rely on mechanics.

The only thing I think would be better is that scum know there is an informed player, not what they know.
It's less of a town bonus and more of a town catch up when this information is revealed to scum as well.
