yeah I probably would not play another one any time soon because it sucks nailing a bunch of scum and still losing or getting a really crappy role
but I enjoyed this game and don't regret playing!

but I enjoyed this game and don't regret playing!

That's the beauty of "original" GIMs .. you get to choose YOUR Role, mot submit someone else's. I even like it more when I get to choose my alignment as well.. (Great Idea, Greater Idea .. etc)

That's the beauty of "original" GIMs .. you get to choose YOUR Role, mot submit someone else's. I even like it more when I get to choose my alignment as well.. (Great Idea, Greater Idea .. etc)

original GIMs are even worse. The actual setup composition as detailed in the first post of GIM is that the mod rolls an X sided die where X is the number of posts currently in the thread (at like 10 thousand or so i think), and you get the role corresponding to what was rolled.

GIM uPick is what you described.

How about a upick a person, and your role is rolled from all of their posts they made in the GIM thread. (if the user has summitted less than x posts, have them submit multiple people)

well, in the original Great Idea Mafia, it's only 145 roles vice thousands, but the roles are still distributed via randomization (specifically the wiki states to use random.org).

The first setup to begin any level of user-pick was Greater, where they randomize 146 roles, assign each player two, player picks one of the two randoms, and the discards are shown publicly.

Greatest goes one step further, where the mod randomizes the 146 roles in greater idea, assigns 3 randomized cards to each player, and the players *must* keep two cards, one for their alignment, and a different one for their role. the third is publicly discarded.


All GIM-esque variants designed have setup creation involving mod-randomization. It's only mods who willingly choose to forgo the default ruleset and modify their creation to be a uPick where that is changed. Most *Grand* Idea variants ran on site are typically uPick, and why most people are so conditioned to thinking Grand Idea Mafia games are inherently uPick, even when setup info and the name specifically state otherwise.

However, even Grand Idea Mafia was never intended in it's initial conceptualization to be a uPick.

these usually are quite scumsided just by the setup design, i usually have to re-roll 3-5 times just to get more town than scum and it still oft starts in d1 lylo

Then when you add in that the *players* pick the roles, i'm routinely surprised how many scum heavy-hitters I get compared to weak townies.

Honestly with as many vigs as town had, I actually think the setup was somewhat decent for town. Better than I've seen in other setups.

or if the loverizer had been targeted by you before being killed by someone else on the scum team the next night
