I would agree with this, Tbh. I thought it was a really interesting setup but we basically had to walk a knife edge with how we played and there were so many things that could have gone wrong, if we both had not brought our absolute A game to this I don't think it would have been winnable. The plan to go all out on damage while spreading it around was a risk since we knew we were leaving PRs alive but we were panicky about the harmography potions + wanted to lull people into a false sense of security. If either of us had gone down I think the game would have been completely unwinnable though.

I also feel like town early claiming potions makes it hard, I was very afraid people might actually go through with T3's claim on day 1 plan. Even though people slipped enough things to let me guess at who was a "PR" was, that sort of early claim typically gets taken as a townclear and it probably would have been easier to deduce what fits in the setup and what doesn't.

Having the possibility of just...Running Out of kill power as mafia is exceptionally terrifying because nightless is extremely townsided and that's without the possibility of PR clears or getting popped by a watcher. That was part of why I wanted to win this as quickly as possible.

Anyway, figuring out what posts I wanna redact now.

Fwiw I see you guys going "well town would never have won anyway" but with the skitter inno we would have had a pretty much perfect solve going into D3. It would have just been a matter of convincing skitter and whoever else was left.

Not trying to flex, just like, this felt like a setup where scum either win unexpectedly before town can figure out what's going on or lose after a slow burn. And the charisma potion was just downright unfun

I'm not sure how I feel about a game where town loses after Night 2. But...

This game seems designed for town to intentionally shoot itself in the foot by the looks of it.

...and we deserved the loss.

I think the biggest issue with balance was that there was almost no indication this was going to be a bloodbath, which reduced town's urgency to solve.

Not knowing our current HP values going into Day 2, didn't help. That's information that might have changed the trajectory of Day 2, but I can understand why since a damaged player if no one were to claim responsibility might be more inclined to be town read for it, and people who claim dealing damage might be more scum read, which would be unfair to scum. Then again, scum already have more information than town, so them being able to know where health tracks are (and the Charisma Potion forces other damages out into the open), was a bit too much.

I honestly think town loses this game more than it wins.

let me know if anyone would like me to clarify the full distribution of potions to everyone, that information would be scattered around a bunch of different threads and things. i'll save everybody time and say that like 80% of criticisms of the setup are totally correct and 20% are HORRIBLY MISGUIDED and SWATTED AWAY LIKE A MOSQUITO. i think it turned out roughly similar to a 9p micro with a vig, which is kind of a mediocre one. i think i did potion of charisma just because, like, charisma is a classic thing to have a potion of & i couldn't think of a more honest way to implement it. hopefully you don't mind having tried it out, it's nice to have the occasional reminder why people don't do posting restrictions. Lol

rundown of a setup i'm planning to run for MBOS 13

(inaugural mini theme for the boxen), hopefully a clarified version of the setup from this game:

• semi open 8:3
  
• there are potions again. and no nightkill either!
  
• every player gets: approximately 1 pain potion (deal 1 HP of damage). approximately 0.5 harmography potions (watcher but only applies to pain potions). approximately 0.2 jailkeeper potions. approximately 0.3 doctor potions.
  
• every member of the mafia gets approximately 0.4 additional pain potions, and approximately 0.7 potions of Drink More Potions. (note: pain potion will be amended so that you cannot use more than one on a given night)
  
• on day 4, everybody dumps their potions into the Torlet. then a magical fairy brings everyone a new distribution of potions by the same rules that they got them on the first day (which can then be used as soon as night 4)
  
• when i say "approximately

• Why Poisson Distribution?:
  um its a way of getting whole number amounts of thingies. evilly i like the variance of it. also i have to find ways to use my stats degree.

this resembles a nightless game where mafia are struggling to muscle their way in to the execution order ever so slightly, sort of an inversion of how it usually works. in particular, a 3:8 nightless game has a town EV of 45% ish, which i think is a pretty high number by our standards and i wanna say nightless games will tend to be more difficult for mafia in generalㅡso mafia will really want to try their damnedest to sneak in a few kills of their own, and town tries to Thwart and Detect their kills and Make Kills of their Own. the aim is to bring focus on a few fundamental intuitions of night play, as well as the relatively underexplored condition of defending one's own kill choices.
