this is like the puzzle i did at the beginning of the SUPP 2020 discord (key players: ariel??? pj??? davsto??? elbirn??? cheetory6??? other individuals???)
this game is based on recognizing songs from a short segment of them. in the basic form of the game, i'll play a bunch of one-second-long clips of a song and it's up to you to "Recognize" them. generally, what that means is that if you have some piece of information that convinces you that you know what song it is, you get 2 points; usually that is a name of the song or artist, but sometimes you can write the phrase from the chorus, or be able to hum the melody of it, or think of a tv show that featured it, or etc. etc. etc. and then you would get 3 points (2 + an extra point) if you write down the correct song name and artist name
generally, these will be commonplace pop songs (usually just in the english language unfortunately) where the difficulty isn't in knowing obscure music, rather just in piecing the song together from the small out-of-context moment. my staple crop is 2000s pop for this game.
there's also other components of the game where i give you a longer segment (closer to 10 seconds) of a song meant to be unfamiliar (i.e. you shouldnt know it unless you follow my music listening very religiously) and ask you to make some kind of judgement on it. the most common one is "is this song old or new", i.e. it's either from after 2010 or before 1990 (for example) and you have to figure out which.
another frequent fixture is lightning rounds, where you are assaulted with a big load of auditory phenomena and have to recognize a big load of songs from it. you'll kind of just have to check out 7:11 in the video to see what i'm talking about. also sometimes i play like 6 songs at the same time.
this is an event that will take place sporadically in discord. there is no commitment required, even less so than something like song game - you can just show up when it's happening and take note of your own score. most of the time this game takes something like an hour or an hour and a half. 6-9 deciminutes if you will. you also don't have to remember any rules in advance, i will explain everything as the games happen.
anybody else is free to also make and run iterations of this game, and also get help from me as to how to do that. i don't mind doing it myself though.
as the person that prompted me to bring this game here, it is up to PJ to set the date for the first event!!!!!!!!!!!!! bring it on brother.!!!!

Going to be getting progressively less and less active onsite due to work schedule, but still very accessible over Discord (find me in the MS Discord!).

from discord wrote:i am going to do this shit TOMORROW ASS MORNING at 8AM SPECIFIC TIME 10AM CENTRAL TIME 3PM UTC. get READY YOUR ASS.
i'm torn on whether to encore it later in the day because i want to, like, evilly and also friendly-ly force it to happen at that time so that PJ can like play with a group of people. but i might do the whole deal again later in the day after heltris walrus (NOON SPECIFIC TIME / 2PM CENTRAL TIME / 7PM UTC) if there is interest. i encourage you to play at the horrible morning time to be sure, in fact like if there is a leaderboard for that day writ large you will get 10 bonus points for being there in the morning which would be expected to be a somewhat significant amount
you can choose to play in the morning and reject the 10 bonus points as well

Uh...sry, I flipped my sleep schedule literally yesterday, I will be asleep at 8am because it's too fucking hot. So I'm probably gonna wake up at like 2 something pm. Sorry tor this massive inconvenience
from discord wrote:ANYWAY as long as im here: pj seems to NO LONGER be able to make it tomorrow morning but i will STILL be doing it at that time however i will ALSO be doing it again later in the day MUCH more likely
so it's whenever the heltris walrus finishes and those usually go about an hour and a half, and so i'll jsut start when pj said he was approximately waking up which would be 2pm pacific 4pm central

with regards to the zip file: i'd be perfectly happy for somebody to like pick this game up and just administer it to a different group of people so if you think your epic other forum would like this game then i'll write up instructions to deliver for each round
