Tanner is actually the only person in this universe with consciousness. All other beings in this universe are NPCs. I mean, obviously, in this game, I'm an NPC, Hectic said so at the start of the game. But I meant in the more cosmic universal sense. We are all defined only in the impact we might have on Tanner. All people who have ever existed or will ever exist only matter inasmuch as they might affect Tanner and his life.

That means that as the only individual in the world with any sentience, he alone is capable of any evil. Moral good is merely the absence of evil. Even if Tanner does good things most of the time, he probably did something evil, at some point or another. I mean so have we. But we are NPCs. It is just the nature of how we are. We only create adversity against eachother that somehow adds texture and complexity to Tanner's life, or to the extent any of the awful things we do fail to do even that, it is irrelevant, because imagining us not doing the evil thing is identical to imagining us not existing. Our predestination to do so is inherent in the nature of who we are. Someone who will not regale you with a tale of how they took an arrow to the knee is not truly a guard of skyrim, just a man who is paid to defend a city and wear heavy metal armor.

But Tanner, Tanner has adjacency. All decisions he makes are points along the meandering path of his free will and consciousness, ideas about what his futures could hold, and what he shall and shall not like them to hold. When even a fraction of those choices are wrongful, his evil grows. Maybe he cuts in line at the grocery store. Maybe he willfully does not laugh at one of my jokes. Maybe he does not venmo me money for the dinner I dreamed I dropped off for him last night. Like entropy, evil only grows, increasing the total darkness in the universe.

However, evil is beautiful. Paintings cannot be painted without black. Stories cannot be written without villains. Each of our imperfections and failing as NPCs only exist to add complexity and nuance to the universe Tanner inhabits, even, that is there very purpose.

Do not vote for Tanner this day. Even though the universe bends towards evil, perhaps with lines of black Tanner's penstrokes can draw a lightbulb onto the page, a pattern of catastrophe that is itself something bright, if only by optical illusion. We are all scaled to the level of Tanner.
