The footsteps become louder and quicker in pace. Leaves rustle violently, you hear loud grunting, and then..

Cephrir and Ydrasse tumble from the brush and into view, wrestling with something.

You notice a glint of sunlight shine from in between them. It's a short blade.

"Traitor! I saw you kill PookyTheMagicalBear in their sleep! Ngh..!"

Cephrir's yelling is cut short by a blow to the chin from Ydrasse, sending the knife flying away.

"Get off me! We both know-- you killed-- Tetrina! You.. killed them all!"

Ydrasse tries to hit Cephrir again, but he's quicker this time. He catches her arm and sends her past him, hurling to the ground.

"Running out of steam so soon? Bet you wish you had your gun right about now, hm, spy?

You watch as Cephrir retrieves the dropped blade and prepares to finish his combatant off.

"Where's your secret agent friends now, Ydrasse?"

"Sh..shut it, spy. They're gone. Killed them."

"Hmph! Maintained innocence til the end.."

Cephrir raises the knife, and.. well..

You know what happened next, don't you, skitter30?

BANG!

Yet another gunshot rings out across the forest, sending wildlife away in droves.

Cephrir freezes in place, locking eyes with you for just a fleeting moment.... before slumping atop Ydrasse.

You drop the pocket pistol as Ydrasse pushes free from Cephrir's body.

As the flapping of wings and beating of hooves die down, a silence follows, broken only when Ydrasse speaks up.

"How did you know?"

You inhale deeply and relax against the tree once more.

"Cephrir never gave up hope, all this time. He never faltered."

"You don't just-- crash-land into the wilderness, discover your friends' bodies all torn up, and lose your only chance of rescue without skipping a beat."

"He must have had something else to place his hope in."

Ydrasse nods, slowly..

"I suppose.. that makes sense. Cephrir's resilence was second-to-none."

She crawls away from the grisly scene to instead lie down next to you.

"So..... no one is coming for us, huh?"

You shake your head, and close your eyes.

Cephrir could not be trusted!

Oh, to clear up the final mystery for any who may have been following that...

Locke, Monarch, and Fleet (All friends of mine who more or less have no idea how to play mafia) had to vote for who the scum-aligned caller was on N3. All missed, it was Maple (another newbie).

Shutterbug (/Dice) were controlled by me and had no alignment. They were added to the setup solely for flavour, to more directly assist the newbies, and make scum newb's job a little easier.

Felt like we were dead in the water there for a while, I'm glad we at least were able to make it close. I think we actually could have won if we hadn't also shot Pooky (no way in hell we saw that shot coming from Ydrasse).

For what it's worth, my plans were mostly genuine-- really the only difference is there was some TMI mixed in because I knew the guns were real and scum couldn't interfere, but those were both reasonable assumptions for town to make. The frustration at being ignored was therefore also mostly genuine (though obviously the Galron hammer was a scumclaim).

Like, I bagged 2/3 scum D1, had the right idea on the associative calculations even if off pure math the choice was wrong, and I even figured out the scum caller. I was on another level.

Yeah i actually found a tmi bit from you this morning that kinda imploed there was exactly 1 scum gun, anf that's what finally tipped it over for me

Also good job ss and ceph, trucking on even tho it looked dire at times
