I actually do do it with dice, though it's a pretty contrived method.

I'll assign numbers to players, then order the list of non-VT roles, and then roll a large number of dice. E.g. for this setup i might do

Original Roll String: 50d15
50 15-Sided Dice: (11, 11, 3, 11, 1, 3, 2, 9, 3, 10, 3, 12, 10, 6, 9, 3, 7, 7, 13, 12, 14, 13, 10, 11, 8, 12, 7, 12, 8, 5, 11, 3, 10, 5, 9, 8, 14, 14, 15, 9, 12, 10, 10, 5, 11, 13, 15, 7, 6, 1) = 434

The first number in that list would be the mafia strongman, the next unique number would be the mafia watcher, then the mafia doctor, then the vig, then the jailkeeper, then the gunsmith.

So in that case players 4, 8 and 12 would be the mafia, players 11, 2 and 7 would be the town power roles (each in their respective order), the rest would be VTs.

I have a question about dice rolls actually.

Is there a way to give a readout of random numbers in successive order?

Not certain what you mean; do you mean randomizing the order of the numbers from 1 to n (or a list of names)? If so random.org's list randomizer does that (and is probably the easiest way to randomize roles)
