THAT was the reason for the Dann wagon. "Why me" is a valid tell... if it's "why don't you push Y who did the same" or so.
This is a scumhunting question and does not deserve a scumread.

I have never been someone good at or even particularly interested in mechanics, which might be part of the disconnect here

probably best to drop this particular line, I'll ask about it later

the basic idea for those unfamiliar is that playing scum or just in general lying is a lot more cognitive stress / a lot more of a cognitive load than playing town is, and one consequence of this is that someone may be less likely to pick up on humor, and thus will respond to a joke completely seriously or misinterpret what someone's saying. (ironically enough, exactly like you do right there)

it is also a trademarked tell of NSG incorporated and every time you use it in a game you must give me credit or else receive a cease and desist from my lawyers
