The thing about those options is that if, say, we choose #1, and then I decide to say "Hey, I investigated (insert player name) last night, and he's the (insert continent) rep from the (insert mafia) mafia", everyone not in their mafia may very well vote them. After all, agreed-upon mechanics or no, killing the other mafia is the true objective.

Another option- we could have everyone claim who they targeted last night, every day. If they want to share the results of their targeting or not, that's up to them, but things will probably end up a bit more tactical if we choose that.

I like that last paragraph. Even if you lie, it still reveals information about yourself. Maybe play that way and no lynch day-by-day.

As for the first paragraph of the last post, if you do that, it pays off short-term, but that night, the member of the dead member's mafia will target you and so likely will the members of the OTHER mafia. So basically you're sacrificing yourself for an opposing mafia, which isn't a bad trade until you consider that the third mafia is cackling because they weren't damaged at all.

Why would members of the mafia other than the one you revealed a member of target you? After all, you could be one of theirs. I suppose they might, with intent to protect, but...

Ow. Wow, okay.
Unvote: Coron
That makes lynches a little more useful, since at least you know what effect voting for someone will have. Targetting someone at night might just get them killed...

I'm pretty certain that thrawn is a safe vote, then. Maybe nationality-claiming is the best way to "protect" yourself in a bandwagon? (thanks, Dmi, for explaining that)

Frankly, guys, I don't really care whether or not I live. If we play the game out at night, with no day, then I wouldn't mind. But this, as it is, seems too luck-based for me. Don't expect me to defend myself from this bandwagon.

I'd much rather
vote Locus
instead.
I don't know what to expect from this game, but I'm opting for STD option #1.

Well, night-time is going to be just as luck-based as the day, possibly moreso, for reasons I outlined above. I think we're gaining a lot more information today than I expected, although I'm not certain how much good it will do with the way night actions are set up. Going without a day seems even less like Mafia, however.

Day is going to be the least luck-based part of the game, really. After all, in day, you can actually affect other people's actions with opinions, logic, and, well, talking. At night, you just have to target based on information gained in day and during past nights, and hope for the best.

I don't particularly care about keeping this game like mafia, because the premise from the start wasn't even close. Night-only would be more interesting to me, because it'll become more strategic over time.

Im trying to think about the results here.

Nation claiming would give the information to the wrong people I think. Members of opposing mafias/ same nation would know you were not part of their mafia - members of your own mafia would narrow it down but wouldnt know.

Mafia claiming is tricky as well - It would paint you as a target for other mafias, but would also allow you to be protected by your own mafia. Its risky since the members of your own mafia wouldnt know if you are being protected already and if 2 of them target you then it would mean you're dead. I know a way around this, which Ill save if IM being bandwagoned - but even that is not without flaws.

I still think our best chance today is go without a lynch, down the road when more of us have had cop investigations we're going to be able to figure out who is outnumbering who and by that start lynching off the weaker teams but for now we really don't have all that much to go on. I doubt anyone else is going to give away any more information at this point anyway.

I'm not sure how it hurts us to lynch, you only have a ~25% chance to lynch your own team, versus 66-75% in a usual game when you're town.

Let's see: telling your nationality confirms your 'guilt' for three other players, and doesn't really confirm anything for your teammates. I think I agree with Narninian on this one. Revealing your mafia makes you a dead man, however, as 8 people now know you're the enemy and only 3 want to protect you. However lynching someone only draws the ire of 3 people, and narrows you down for the other 8. I think I'll continue to support lynching thrawn, thanks, in the hope of spotting the rest of the Paper mafia.

All right... it looks like we'll be following the "claim you know who someone is to kill the enemy" plan, after all.

Mr. Flay, confirming your nationality confirms your guilt for only two players.

Ok this doesnt look like it's going anywhere so I'm going to suggest that we call a vote right now, Lynch or no Lynch for the first day, if we get 50% in favor of lynch then we all agree to do so and continue with the day until someone is dead, if we decide to no lynch then we go to night and continue from there.

Sound good to anybody else?

Dmi is scissors mafia, thrawn is paper mafia.
Regardless of what team you're on. There's at least one target here for you.
I say we lynch someone.

hmm I may consider changing to whoever is the driving force behind the thrawn bandwagon as well, if there is any. The leader could very well have information that Thrawn is NOT a member of his/her mafia - information we can only speculate on.

I was the first to suggest a lynch on Dmi. I'm wondering why Thrawn's bandwagon is moving so much faster.
