Most newbies manage fine in scumchat. The trick is to follow these rules:

1) Be known on Mafiascum outside of scumchat. This is not essential, but it does make it work that much better. If you break this one, make sure you don't break any others.

2) Any personality defects you have must be to do with being anti-social. If you are just generally a nice person, that works, but if you come across as a whiner then the ones there (who are anti-social) will rip you to pieces.

3) Develop thick skin. Insulting someone on scumchat is quite often a sign of affection. The better you take it, the more respect you gain.

4) Don't be an arrogant prat and threaten to ban someone. Up until that point I thought you might just be unfortunate, but when I saw that I thought "wow, what a prick"

Basically, as I read it, Miller was unable to read the situation well enough, not grasping either the scumchat culture, JD's personality or basic internet protocol. He was unlucky to run into JD, but tbh, he should have had more sensitivity than to continue digging the hole he was digging. What it looks like is him coming in, getting baited a bit for being new, but then reacting poorly (failing to be a good sport) and throwing a hissy fit.
