That's less town-favored than Netlava's game. I like it. Especially since it makes a Tracker-claim Day 1 no longer work at all.

This is likely to be quite unbalanced but the idea seems interesting.

1 Goon

2 Townies

Day Start

Smallest possible simple game. Town has to lynch goon or it goes to night and he wins. If one townie votes the other, goon can hammer. Knowing this, if a vote occurs and a hammer is not dropped, it must not be town on town; it must be town on goon or vice versa, confirming the third party as innocent all around and the goon as such to the townie involved in the vote. I think that's as much as can be determined objectively.

This set-up reminds me very closely of the Pie E7 set-up that was discarded from the Newbie Queue awhile ago. I'd hate to be the remaining scum if my Ninja-scum buddy was lynched Day 1.

A game that begins in LyLo is usually a complete toss-up.

As several people have mentioned, this game would totally lock in; this would probably end up going the following way.
1. Person 1 votes Person 3.
2. Person 2 hammers.
3. If Person 3 is mafia, town wins. If not, mafia wins.

So basically, it's like a game where there is no voting/strategy, and the winner is decided at random, with a 2/3rds chance of mafs winning and a 1/3rds chance of town winning.

I like it; having a track/watch-immune Mafia adds a new level of tasty flavor to this kind of setup.

If town votes town, goon hammers. If town votes goon or vice versa there will be no immediate hammer because the third player doesn't know which of them is mafia. But once there is no hammer it becomes clear that one of them is. They each know but the necessary third player does not.

Depends far too much on whether the Ninja is lynched D1. If that happens, it's almost auto town win. If not, it's almost a 5:2 vanilla game.

How about:

1 Track-immune Mafia
1 Watch-immune Mafia
1 Tracker
1 Watcher
3 Townies

Open and Closed

2 Mafia Goons
3 Census Takers
1 Tracker
2 Townies

Daystart & Closed Reveal
(the role and alignment of dead players is not posted until the game is over)

Census Taker: Once during the game, you may receive a list of how many players on each team are alive.

hat tip to Xyl for posting his list of roles -- the Census mechanic is incredibly cool, and new to me.

I'm not sure how much chance the scum have here. The trackers are powerful with only 2 scum; 1 scum gets lynched, and both trackers become cops. Plus, day 1 massclaim, scum pretty much have to claim census taker (if they claim either tracker, I think town automatically catches them that night, and of course claiming townie is almost as bad), which then means that the scum can't kill all the town census takers (or they'll look really bad) and that they have to tell the truth, and that makes them very vulnerable to the trackers.

Huh. Somehow I read that as 2 trackers, 1 townie.

Ok, that's more balanced. I still think town has the edge, especially the first few times it'd be played.

I think Closed reveal makes it harder for the town.

The even number of players is also a negative to the town.

Consider what the town will typically face after a lynch and a nk: 2 scum left, 1/3 chance of the tracker being dead, mylo.

Can the town ever trust a "successful" tracker investigation?

Three lynches, two scum, wonky reveal mechanics, only one weak power role (plus the census takers, who in no way fully compensate for the reveal issues). On the contrary, I think this is pretty scumsided.

I'm still not wild about it. 2/11 seems better to me on paper (adding another census taker and another vanilla), but in practice I'd kind of expect the town to start lurking with a ratio like that.

It's probably bad that I want to see some sort of no-reveal/censustaker game now just to see how hard it screws with the town's morale.

Here's a slightly modified version of my Almost Nightless setup.

Almost Nightless 1.1

3 Mafia Hitmen(each gets an individual NK in addition to the collective NK)
12 Doctors(each can protect against one kill)

Day Start.

All NKs are compulsory(any kills not used are randomly distributed among all living players(mafia included)). Again, here is where I discuss the mechanic.

Pooky's "Magic Train" Mafia from Flayming Man probably will work slightly better, as the Townies get two chances.

If I remember correctly, the game has three players, two Townies (or Lost Masons, perhaps) and one Mafia Goon. Everyone picks somebody else to vote for. If the Townies vote for each other, they win. If not, they get to try again. If they can't manage after two 'cycles' to find each other, the Goon wins.

The couple of times we played it, it basically ended up with one person confirmed Town and the Goon and the other Town fighting it out for the second pairing. More interesting than it probably sounds...
Retired as of October 2014.
