Well there's something I hadn't noticedMr. Flay wrote:Eventually I'd like to have the VOTE: tag format based on your preferences - so if Fenchurch prefers, you see my votes that way. I prefer###vote: PlayerVOTE: Player(or something similar), but not everybody does. It'd be a limited subset of formats, but there's a couple different ones people prefer already out there "in the wild". For now, though, a bbcode was easiest to get up and running, and get people used to the idea.
Also, there IS a difference between the two you posted, it's just not obvious. Hover your cursor over the 'right' one...
For me I don't mind what the text phrase is, visual clarity is the key. I appreciate that some players have their pet phrases to make searching easy, but I think your choice of VOTE: is plenty good enough for that. The real problem is that currently, not many players are actually using the tag (my spot check found about 1 in 10), and so some will still occasionally typeVOTE PlayerorVOTE; Player, and not notice, because that looks practically the same as the official version.
If it put a little box around the vote, or a coloured background, or something like that which made it visually distinct for everyone, then I reckon more players would:
a) notice that there is a tag,
b) want to use it, to make their votes look like "proper ones", which might
c) reduce the grey area over what is considered a vote or not, and maybe even make vote counts easier for mods.
Although this is definitely a non-urgent request, don't get me wrong.- yabbaguy

UNVOTE: with the dangling colon is tacky, and I explicitly say in my rulesets "Please don't use Unvote: [playername], it's too easily construed for a vote." I'm down with the customization option if it's possible.
Observation: nearly everyone in my Newbie game is using vote tags over bold tags, despite me clearly listing both options as valid.yabbaguy ~ Winning without actually winning.

Yeah, I don't know yet how to construct a bbcode such that it can 'tell' if there's something inside the tag or not. And in phpBB3, theyyabbaguy wrote:UNVOTE: with the dangling colon is tacky, and I explicitly say in my rulesets "Please don't use Unvote: [playername], it's too easily construed for a vote."haveto be opened and closed tags, so I can't just make it UNVOTE: by itself.
Cool.Observation: nearly everyone in my Newbie game is using vote tags over bold tags, despite me clearly listing both options as valid.
Fenchurch: You might want to start a thread in Site Ideas about what the Vote tag format options could be... I'm open to all ideas, but I do think something like what we've used for years is best as the 'default'. I'm up for a light background or something, though... not sure how I feel about a border.Retired as of October 2014.- diginova

Something that normal user's can't do with other tags would be the best.
I also think more people would use it if vote tags took less time than typing out the old way; maybe make using shorter BBcodes an option. I'm preferential to VOTE: and UNVOTE: myself.- Mr. Flay

Aliases are easy.I'll add VOTE: now, and I guess UNVOTE: though I don't love it. [un] ?Actually, I need to think a bit more about how that would interact with planned expansions for the vote tag.
Also, all you have to do is type their name and hit the button on the editor. Isn't that shorter (unless you're in Quick Reply)?Retired as of October 2014.- diginova

VOTE: Mr. Flay (I was testing.)Mr. Flay wrote:Aliases are easy.I'll add VOTE: now, and I guess UNVOTE: though I don't love it. [un] ?Actually, I need to think a bit more about how that would interact with planned expansions for the vote tag.

Actually, that's backwards. You have to click the Vote button first, then type the name.
But I never use it, as it's just muscle memory now to type [ b]Vote: xxx[ /b].- Mr. Flay

I still think it could be cool if somehow we could fix it so that when nothing is enclosed in the UNVOTE: tags, that the colon (:) disappears.
Or if there's nothing inside the UNVOTE: tags, but there is a VOTE: tag immediately following, just change the colon (:) to a semicolon (;).
i.e.
UNVOTEorUNVOTE; VOTE: Mr. Flay
instead of
UNVOTE:orUNVOTE: VOTE: Mr. FlayLast edited by ReaperCharlie on Fri Aug 13, 2010 10:30 am, edited 1 time in total.Show"Take me to Pleasure Town!" "Look, the most Glorious Rainbow Ever!" "Do me on it!" -

BBCodes don't work with conditionals like that, unfortunately. They're talking about expanding the functionality for 3.1 or 3.2, but right now there's not much I can do without rewriting the tag from scratch.Retired as of October 2014.- ReaperCharlie

Hm. I can't delete a post in a game thread I created, made by a player's alt who's since quoted it and wants it deleted to avoid confusion.

I did a search this morning, and got no results, and there was no link to return to/go to the search function (reg or advanced). Unsure if it's impossible or no, but it sure would be helpful (I loathe pressing the "Back" button).- Vi

I have an issue.
I tried using the fancy BCC function to send PMs to multiple people, but after one of them picked up their PMallof them went to the Sentbox - in other words, I can't tell who hasn't picked their PM up now. In phpBB2 sending a PM to multiple people resulted in individual copies of the PM getting sent out so I could track each person's PM individually.
Halp, etc.
EDIT: The forum's search function is broken in the archives. I went to an old game earlier today to try to find something but it never found anything I searched for, even stuff in the topic post.Everything you say and do matters. Yeah it's just the way phpBB3 works. We must learn to live with it. There has been talk of making it work like phpBB2, but it'd have to be modded in and would probably take more time than it was worth. If it's really that important, just copy/paste and send them individually. Sorry.
Also, I believe Flay's taken the main site search function offline, so that might explain that anomaly. Obviously, don't take my word for it though.Show"Take me to Pleasure Town!" "Look, the most Glorious Rainbow Ever!" "Do me on it!" -

Which archive search are you looking at, Vi? phpbb2 or phpbb3 version? phpbb2 is still disabled, the other should be working, but mith may need to rebuild the index.
RC is right about multi-PMs. They worked that way in phpBB2 because JEEP coded them. In phpBB3, they're built-in, but work different, sorry.Retired as of October 2014.- Vi

ITT we learn that JEEP > the phpBB3 designers? I know we're a specialized site but some of these mods seem like all-purpose utilities.
I was using the phpBB3 search, the one at the top of the page.Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend. - Vi
