Just added a white background to votes/unvotes in all skins, for now. I'll still look at other options, but this at least gives people some visual cue in the meantime.

Borders alone looked odd. Not entranced with the font-family thing, though I can work an example up for you guys.

As for why to do it, if we can get people using the official tags reliably, we can start to code things like automatic vote counters, custom vote formats (see votes the way YOU want to), etc. But if people still split between

Well, at least I could require people to use VOTE: tags. Right now, I'm requiring them to colorbold them, because they're so hard to catch, even while reading the post.

For me, it's the ":" behind the unvote that causes me to avoid the unvote tag. It doesn't matter who I was voting, all that matters is that I'm not voting anyone currently.

Issue: Automated votes only counting vote tags will result in fakevotes or confusing non-counted votes by people who use bold tags, especially in Newbie games.

The white background honestly looks terrible. Truthfully I've not had a problem with seeing votes/unvotes so this project seems redundant IMO.

I've seen a wide spectrum of vote-counting quality. I believe I've yet to blunder on a votecount outside of Marathon Day, as have multiple other mods I've seen, but I've also seen mods bungle a votecount on nearly every attempt, sometimes still screwing it up after they've fixed it. Some mods like CSL absolutely need an additional visual aid (red + bold) or he's sure to miss votes. Everyone's different.

I'm not sure if I would ever adopt a "you must use the vote tag rule", but I'm sure some mods would if the vote tag project continues. And I do also dislike the all-caps VOTE: myself, even if it is asthetic. Is it actually possible with some coding for a forum tag to be individually customizable?

I do use automated prod scripts, but I simply don't trust a machine to count votes, the most important and sometimes subjective part of the game, for me. Since I'm in the camp of people who (almost?) always get it right the first pass, I'm quite fine with bold tags or vote tags. But again, that's me. If you do go through with the vote tag customization project, those who dislike vote tags can just set them to be

without the caps locking or funky backgrounds, and then everyone's happy.

Yes

Not 'individually', but we can set multiple 'skins' for the vote tag, so that you'll see it as

or

or probably some other common methods. I'm sure mith doesn't want to go hog-wild with it, but three or four variations that meet most people's needs would probably be useful.

I don't use the vote and unvote tags. I use the quick reply and it's easier to just type the bold.
One site I frequent has the bold button for tags in quick reply.
Can this be applied here?
