Civil War Mafia might be an interesting idea ... there are certainly enough figures that could have roles built around them ... but who would be the Mafia?

(Since the North won, I guess we could make the South the bad guys? *duck*)

what about a Battle of the Bands Mafia?or a Saturday Night Live Mafia?
i can figure out how to do the SNL Mafia easily but the BOTB mafia might be tricky cuz i'll have to do many, many mason groups or i could conglomerate to make it 1 band per person

munchkin maf sounds funny

instead of Sesame Stret Mafia you could do Elmo Mafia cuz there is so much Elmo stuff out there today like Limbo Elmo and Hokey Pokey Elmo

I'd be very interested in playing in a Magic: the Gathering mafia, as well as an X-Men mafia!!

My only question is why there isn't a Final Fantasy or Battletech/Mechwarrior mafia anywhere on the list?
Those are two other themes I'd like to see done!

Ooh, my bad, I didn't recognize from the title that it was Final Fantasy based.

In any case I still think a Battletech one would be cool! You could let the players trade in their mech parts at night, and depending on what they trade in and what for, players could find themselves trading roles! (Like trade in a scanning device (inspector) for a shield generator (doctor). Of course there would have to be some rules regulating all this. But it's just an idea I came up with.

I think discer mentioned an L5R (Legend of the Five Rings) Mafia back in the Pokemafia thread, and I thought I'd put it up here to see how much interest there would be (and how many people are familiar with the subject material). It could possible be a three-part Mafia series, encompassing both Days of Thunder and the Battle at Oblivion's Gate. I'd be more than happy to run it or play it.

Would a set-up where none of the roles would be from the roles list here, but otherwise normal mafia be considered normal or themed?

well if none of the roles are standard that means a lot of them are probably pretty funky. I think that counts as themed.

Funky roles are normal. especially around here. Even more so in my games here...

To be classified theme it must either be based on source material. (Book, movie, game ...) or have game mechanics significantly different.

Would anyone be interested in playing Command and Conquer Mafia?

I'd be interested in that one!

I've also come up with some more that would be cool...(again, not sure if they've been done)

Jyhad (aka Vampire: the Masquerade)
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Grand Theft Auto (III or Vice City)
Mortal Kombat
Stephen King's "The Stand"

[peeks head in thread]

Mmm....Elder Scrolls III: Morrowwind....so....good.....

I feel like that actually
could
have a pretty neat interpretation as a mafia game.

Darkblade had a Mortal Kombat Mafia mini that sat in the queue for several weeks before he changed it to something else. I don't think he had more than a couple people sign up.

Macros: Well, the storylines used to be the same, but then Red Alert 2 came out and messed things up. I'm not sure which one would be better, but I like the GDI/Brotherhood one more. Although I'm more familiar with Red Alert.

Now that Texas Returns has completed, I'm thinking about a new game.
I've got two setups that are basically ready to run -- one set in feudal Japan, and one based on Tad Williams'
Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn
Trilogy.

So, anyone feel strongly about one of these two themes? The Japan setup has a lot of complicated roles, and I'm toying with including a whole samurai honor code, which would allow players to commit ritual suicide and challenge each other to duels, among other things. So, that would probably be a smaller game, and I'd want only serious, experienced players.

The MST game would be larger and much less "niche." It does have some cool elements I'd like to test out though, but if no one else is familiar with the books, I'll probably shelve it (book knowledge wouldn't be necessary to play, but if I'm the only Tad Williams fan here, I don't really see the point of running the theme). Let me know what you think, people.

I like the sound of the feudal Japan game. I've never heard of the books.

After how TX Mafia went my interest is piqued about feudal Japan. I'm a big fan of Akira Kurosawa films.

Well, I guess I can't let you play the game, given your eerie foreknowledge of the setup....

You should stick the thread in theme park, and give it the title "C&C Mafia - DAY ONE, 10 to Convict!"

Or something.

I'd also be interested in anything on Feudal Japan. Shogun: Total War was sweet. And was the translation of Sun Tzu's Art of War that I got. As is the suicide mechanic. ESPECIALLY the suicide mechanic, for more reasons than one.

Oh, one other thing. Assassin Mafia would be cool, based around that game that Neo ran on the GL.
...whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

er...Wacky, Sun Tzu was
Chinese
(His book is really good though). But I think it would be cool to play a mafia game where maintaining honor was more important than remaining alive and possibly even more important than defeating the other groups.

Mackay and I plan an RAF-mafia (Ready Aim Fire) at the GL. If it is successful, we might run it here as well.
