And yeah, I thought Hiraki was Maggie at the end and was gonna come out and be like "I've got one shot" and help my case against SA being a vig. Or at least come out as Maggie.

Alas, no Maggie.

That would have been a good fake one to give to mafia...Perhaps a little too good.

Scott, don't do a ReaperCharlie and dismiss valid and constructive criticism of the setup as sour grapes. The scum players have a point here. The town basically won the game off the sensor's results, and if that's a possibility, that makes it a really powerful role and you need to balance around it. You weren't far off, but it was somewhat on the town-favoring side.

scum can claim, and include town roles which are flavor-ambiguous. Otherwise, you'd just lynch the players who claim the least well known roles (like you basically did), and that's not a fun way to play. Harry Potter mafia recently didn't have a Dumbledore. I made a Shrek setup without Fiona, etc.

Sensor is an interesting role, because it has the potential to be really freaking powerful, as was shown in this game. Apart from that, I think the game was balanced, just the sensor needed to be pruned down to one shot. Town lacked consistant doctor protection, and the only other way to get someone out of a kill was hitting right with the RB, or me getting lucky with my one shot.

Happy with my play to an extent (told yall DBE was town and SA were scum from early on but noooo...), but I still feel this was a bit of an off game for me, given how bad I was at getting points across quickly and effectively.

This game was interesting given the balance of VI players to strong players, which there was a bit of a QR discussion regarding. This took the normal path of all the (non-scum) lynchbait players getting killed by the halfway point in the game, and without the sensor, I really think town would have lost. Too many people (including some incompetent ones) were trying to lead, and people would not just zero in on an idea. This is one of the things that so so many people miss as something scum win when they do, keep the town looking everywhere. I would rather any day of the week have what some of the early votecounts looked like where there are eight people getting voted, even if a few are scum, then have a big wagon on town. It creates chaos, it creates distrust and mislynches for late in the game.

I might think of more later.

While the setup was obviously very swingy, based largely on the Sensor role, I do think it was a well-designed and well-run game, and I thank the Mod and backup/reviewers for a great game. As I mentioned briefly in the Graveyard QT, this will be my last game of Mafia on MafiaScum, and I can honestly say I'm very happy I ended up choosing this one to close out my playing days. It was always entertaining, and I followed it closely even after my death; it was a chance to explore how to try and maximize a role I had never been before; and also because I won! But most importantly, it was a very good example of how no matter how well or poorly either side of a game of Mafia plays, luck will always be a part of it, and so it was here:

The town's win relied on several key players, all but one of them town-aligned. SensFan was probably MVP (my gut knew you were lying about your shots, but TBH if I was scum I would have passed you over too), but Benmage really cemented the town victory by nailing ribwich/bobsnox and Steven Hacking. While I'd like to call myself a "key player" for calling the majority of the scumteam (vice Benmage) before I was lynched, once I died the town pretty much ignored everything I said, so the point is kind of moot.

Actually, that's a good point. Having all the scum having two targets and only one of the town was a problem w/r/t Ben's tracking. Should have had a motivator or something that could have given town double actions. Cause basically, Ben getting even one such result was such a huge boon to town, because it both outed a blue scum and put a crosskill target on Ben's back.

Not dismissing criticism at all, I understand how powerful the sensor role is. I still think town would have one had sensor been only 1 shot as the 2/13 cleared many players. 1-shot also makes the strategy of when to use it come into play more. With 2-shot, I think you need to go for the first two wagons to get that information out there. With one-shot I don't think its necessary to use it the first night.

Also each GF got to choose pregame if they wanted to be investigation immune or nightkill immune. Neither really came into play. Sensor would have been completely useless if there were immunity issues, hence why everyone would show up.

Edit: Never even considered the tracker confirming scum because of the double actions. As Benmage said, he would have been a great town tracker.

Great game played by all.

I nominate Sens for town MVP. His sensor hits pretty much tore the game open, sadly for scum.

Benmage gets Scum MVP. He would've lasted a long time based on the tracks if he hadn't been killed/sensed.

I still dont see how sensor is useless with immunity issues... it would had said 1 person on the Mist wagon. BAM look elsehwere! (Just like town knew to do)

And it would had said 3 on the Tragedy lynch....examine it further. (Just like town knew todo)....but there would've been some extra leway for manipulation.

Its the same thing with cop investigations in any of the many games out there that have cops and GFs...the sheer presence of a GF or potential for the presence of a GF gives those automatic mod confirmed roles somewhat of a check and balance.

The most obvious reason for not having any roles be 'Sensor-Immune' is that it's impossible to define what immunity from Sensor is. None of: "Always shows up as off the wagon", "Always shows up as on the wagon", and "Always shows up as the opposite of what he was" are strictly better than the others; and it wouldn't be uncommon for a GF who is 'Immune' to Sensors to end up getting screwed by the 'Immunity'.

Eh, that doesn't really make sense. He got nightkilled PRECISELY BECAUSE of the tracks, and that's the case even if the scanner doesn't exist. Benmage's claim basically handed the town half the scum in the game on a platter, because he nailed two scum and pretty much guaranteed that he was going to get crosskilled sooner rather than later.

Ben, I don't understand why you didn't have Lowell kill and keep Jason on you every single night so long as all three of you were alive?

Because the argument, as it has been all along, is that the sensor turned out so powerful because the scum were on the first two lynchwagons in such dramatically different ratios (and who called the mist wagon likely mostly towndriven, and the tragedy one full of suspect people? Oh yeah).

Plus, you know, with multiple scumgroups, the town probably needs to lynch better than 40% to stay ahead of the game.

Yeah, you don't get unvoted for claiming a power role, you get unvoted by showing interest in catching scum and looking pro-town. You don't even get into that situation if you do that beforehand.

And as it turns out, that ability would not guarantee that you neighborize town (i.e. it was possible to neighborize scum). We might have actually gotten a bit screwed over by that if Mist had lived and picked Abe to "confirm".
