That looks pretty good. Only thing I would change, in a premade at least, is that I would be making sure the tank was rushing Aegis so that it could appear earlier in the game than as a duo laner's 3rd item. In spite of the nerfs, Aegis is still so stupid it needs to be somebody's first item.Knight of Cydonia wrote:I'm thinking start with Nashor's simply because it builds out of Fiendish Codex, which is quickest to go to since I usually start Taric as Meki + 1 health pot + 1 mana pot. Then boots 2, then finish this build: situationally - although I'd suggest swapping out the Frozen Heart for Banshee's Veil against a more AP-heavy team. For those too lazy to click through: this gives him maxed-out CDR, 100 AP, 184 AD pre-ult, 1.8k mana and 25 MP/5, whilst maintaining decent survivability and the Aegis and Frozen Heart auras so you can teamfight respectably still if needed.popsofctown wrote:His AP ratios aren't good enough to build AP and his base attack speed isn't good enough for him to be built AD, but maybe he could be hybrid. Since the hybrid items are super gold efficient it could overpower his weak scaling for AP or AD. Seems like an interesting idea. Would you build Nashor's Tooth or Guinsoo's Rageblade first? Guinsoo's has more raw gold efficiency, but Nashor's has CDR which Taric really likes, and more attackspeed which makes Imbue cool down faster. Seems like it goes to Nashor's.
Hextech Gunblade seems like it'd be a bad idea since Taric already has good base damage off his ult, and the spell vamp and lifesteal would get wasted a lot of the time when imbue is keeping him at full health.

Sorry, but I just have to rant for a bit with the recent bannings that Riot has handed out. For my daily purgatory, I was browsing the LOL forums and I waqs struck by the number of threads of people complaining about their bans: this one is one of the best. The shocking thing is that people somehow think this is an acceptable way to behave, and that their bans are unjustified - people who've been reported in over 50 games by hundreds of people - hundreds of people whose time they've wasted and whose days they've made a little more miserable. The breath taking arrogance of those who are sitting theretrying to take the moral high ground, as if riot owesthemsomething. It's simply staggering - I guess they assume the rules don't apply to them. They're someone else's rules.
It's like they want this perfect world where nobody is a noob or a feeder, whatever those terms mean, yet I guarantee you that these people have been noobs and feeders to everyone else and didn't get raged at or insulted or have others go afk or w/e actions they think that a player playing badly in their games justifies. It's like, sure, people shit talk each other in sports - but generally only people on the other team. When people start shit talking their own team, then you know there's trouble ahead. Same thing in LOL: it's like, someone gives up first blood and then the name calling starts. Shit isn't decided by first blood - unless everyone takes that as a cue to stop trying.
I dunno what it is - it's like a poison in the community - that this behaviour can ever be seen as acceptable. Maybe they watch high elo streams and see people raging at each other and that's why they think it's acceptable. Maybe it's a hold over from DotA or whatever. But I'm all for a purge of these people. Like, it's not so hard to keep yourself in check - I've raged, for sure I've raged, but I sure as hell don't rage every game, nor do I ragefeed or ragequit or w/e, and for me, raging is the exception and not the rule - when my self control has failed. I play worse when I rage. I don't like it. Breaks concentration, makes me take daft risks, etc. I try to cut it out, but of course it's hard. No one cares that you lost your cool once or twice. It's when it becomes a matter of course, and it's when you become so unbelievably arrogant that you can't accept that maybe, just maybe, sometimes losing is your own fault (enter ELO hell discussion here).(10:50:24 PM) xcaykex: GODDAMNIT I DONT WANNA GET RID OF MY TENTACLE RAPE PORN

That's why I attempt to avoid the League forums. The sheer sense of entitlement the community feels when they play a FREE game shocks me. I have not seen a thread from a Riot employee on there (whether announcing a new Champion, Patch Notes, or w/e) that isn't instantly responded to with "Magma Chamber?" and it drives me insane. The community on that site seems to believe that Riot owes them everything because they play their free game.- OhGodMyLife

Agreed. So, I used to play DOTA alot, but I haven't in a long time. I saw you guys talking about LOL, so I went and checked it out. Pretty fun. I have a couple of noob questions if you guys don't mind helping out.
1) Do the "free" heroes change every so often? I see some of the heroes that I have for free are available to buy in the store, so I'm like "why would I buy them?" If they rotate the "free" ones, this would make more sense.
2) What heroes would you recommend buying first? I've earned 2000 or so IP, but I don't want to spend it until I'm sure I'm buying a decent champion. I've been playing Garen and Morgana so far.

Nothing really until you hit level 20, then drop the saved up IP on tier 3 runes, there is a diverse range of heros for free each week and low levels runes aren't that good.LynchMePls wrote:Oh, and what should I spend my IP on when I'm just starting out, runes or champions?
So until you find a hero in the free rotation you want to main or until you can buy level 3 runes it's best to save up your IP.Routine day with a dirt cheap brush

Yeah, they rotate the free Champs every week or so. Usually brand-new champs come up free two weeks after they're released.
This is next weeks list: http://www.leagueoflegends.com/news/new ... ne-week-36
As for buying a champ, I'd say buy a tank or a jungler, and learn how to use them. Most players refuse to use either, and if you can do one effectively, you'll be able to win a lot more games. I main Nunu, as a jungler, and he's really easy to learn with a bit of practice. Gragas is also really fun.
P-EDIT: Definitely go with what TBM said. Once you find one really good champ, buy them and use them a lot. I mained Nasus from lvl 6 all the way to lvl 28.- hitogoroshi

Button is mostly right. However, it's okay to buy Tier 1 runes, because they are so absurdly cheap. They will have very little impact on your games, but more than none, so why not? Tier 2 runes are the garbage runes you want to avoid at all costs.
So yeah, get ONE Tier One runebook just for shits. Arpen/Mpen reds, MPregen/level or armor yellows, CDR or MR blues, HP quints, depending on your main.
Speaking of main - if you find one free hero you really enjoy, go ahead and buy them. If you're worried you're buying a "bad" champion, ask us in this thread. Because non-tanks tend to not buy resistance items in low-level games, you can pretty much play whoever you want (that is, a team of five casters dosen't do all that poorly in a low-level game). A lot of LoL is so similar for every champion that it's good to learn last hit with one characters timers over and over. Any non-jungler should work, though I'd also reccomend a non-tank for your first purchase.
So, buy one champion you really enjoy and play them semi-exclusively (playing other free champs as they come, obviously), get ONE Tier 1 runepage, and then save for Tier 3 runes.
Also, if you enjoy LoL, the Collectors Edition is worth the money. $20 for 20 champions, $10 of Riot Points, a few Tier 2.5 runes, and a Kayle Skin. I have a lot of criticism for Riot's business model, but the Collectors Edition is legitimately a great deal, and the twenty "base" heroes are a very healthy core to build upon.
P.edit: Jungling is difficult without a full Tier 3 runebook. and even if you can do it you'll be pretty slow. I'd advise against it."Don’t buy a dozen eggs if you just want a hardboiled egg. Don’t buy a head of lettuce if you just want a salad. Don’t buy eggs and lettuce if you want egg salad because those are not the right ingredients." -Julius Bloop- LimMePls

Thanks for the feedback!
Any suggestions on who to play from this list? Like I said before, I was mainly playing Garen and Morgana, and I'm considering buying Garen since I was enjoying playing him so much. This Weeks Free Champions wrote: * Amumu

I would TBM, but I have limited game time (aka I'm married w/ a kid), so "try them all" is sadly about as realistic as winning the lottery.

Garen is a good choice if you're enjoying him. He's not in the core 20 if you choose to buy the Collectors Edition, and he's ridiculously non-farm dependent, so you're less likely to get in the spiral of "sucking so hard I can't do anything".
bite sized garen guide:
skill priority R > E > Q > W, with one rank in W at four
Items: Doran's Shield, Boots, Mercurys Treads, Sunfire Cape, Aegis of the Legion if no one else got it, reactive tank items to counter whatever they're doing.
You're a disruptor off-tank. You have a spammable silence (!) a physical AoE that you can combine with the Sunfire Cape magical AoE (!!) and an execution ult (!!!). So you don't want to build straight damage - you want to be a tank that they can't break down, so you can just wade in silencing, doing AoE damage, and generally making a mess of things."Don’t buy a dozen eggs if you just want a hardboiled egg. I figured out that skill build after some experimentation. I was ignoring courage completely until late game, but then I realized I should probably start building the passive up a bit earlier, plus popping it as an "oh shit" button was helping my survivablility, so I've been putting in 1 point at 2 (not 4). I should probably swap that up, as Q is great for early harassing.
Up until now I've just been buying the recommended items, but I figured I'd probably start testing out other item builds if I make him my main. Of course now I have to earn more IP before I can even play him again.
I tried Morganna a couple times too. I kicked ass with her my first game, something like 15-2-10, but my second game was... a train wreck. Went mostly soil and bolt, with the shield thing late and ultimate every time it was available."LynchMePls is more town than all the players I've ever declared to be townies. It's hard for me to recommend champs for new players. When I started out, the game was much younger, and I went on the forums and found out about a character that was broken in half (Alistar) and went and roflstomped with him.
The game is a heck of a lot more balanced now, though.
The higher the skill level you advance to in the queue, the later on games get "won". By that I mean, the most drastic changes in a team's chances of winning occurs. At really low elos, kills in the lane that occur even before level 6 decide the game. At higher elos, people start taking longer to die, and longer, etc. This changes which champions are good quite a bit, at low elos you want to be playing good early game dudes.
Cho and Garen are among those dudes. So is Teemo. I'd avoid Nasus, Amumu, Kayle, and Fiddlesticks for now. Fiddlesticks is hard to play and is supposed to jungle (you might find some laners willing to walk into drain suicide, though). Kayle has a terrible early game and is designed for late games. Nasus' strength is also the endgame. And Amumu is pretty much never used except as a jungler.
Preview Edit: I've seen several Garens use Youmo's Ghostblade->Tank lately, since the nerf. Dunno if something about the nerf made that a better build or if that means only the stupid people didn't quit Garen.
I'd recommend maybe playing Morgana only when you can get to be mid with her. In a duo lane, her mud kills the other team's creeps so much that yours push towards the tower, making it harder for you and your partner to farm and increasing the risk that your opponents or someone from an entirely different lane kill you before you have time to run back to your tower. On your own in mid, this is less of an issue. Alternatively, attempt to learn to last hit with Morgana's abysmal autoattack instead"Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"

Well, Ghostblade is one of the recommended items, so chances are they are just a noob like me and don't know better. Garen was nerfed? He seems pretty strong as is, I can only imagine before he was nerfed.popsofctown wrote:I've seen several Garens use Youmo's Ghostblade->Tank lately, since the nerf. Ya, Morgana's autoattack is lolz. I solo'd mid with her both games. I remember enough from DOTA to not make terrible newbie mistakes."LynchMePls is more town than all the players I've ever declared to be townies. And that's never going to change." - Drippereth

I personally <3 Kayle and still use her as my alternate main. Good ratios on her abilities and good utility spells, so she can carry if she's fed, and support if she's not. She does have a very slow early game, though.
Kassadin is also really fun. He's another slow-start though, unless you can get mid.- popsofctown

Before, he was overpowered at low and mid elos and balanced at the very highest elos. So Riot nerfed him, unfortunately, without any of the cleverness they exhibitted in the Cho nerf (nerfing his early game, but buffing him all phases of the game) to keep him balanced at higher ELOs. I'm seeing him somewhat rarely now in the ranked 1300s.
Prehistoric Garen did way more damage with his spin. Actually, thinking about it, they changed it so it scales only off bonus attack damage or something like that? So maybe that's what made ghostblade better. Before it just had massive amounts of power printed on the skill, even if all of his stats were "1"."Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"

I'd say play not necessarily each champion, but a little of each role. I would buy Ashe, 450 IP, relatively good at all levels of play, fairly easy to play in principle. R > W > Q > E. Last hit, spam volley, farm up, kite. Buy Infinity Edge & (Boots of Swiftness / Mercury's Treads) depending on enemy CC. She's somewhat team-dependant, though. It's also perhaps less than ideal since everyone wants to play a carry, because they're the best.
I would suggest trying Jarvan, jungle Amumu, Katarina, and Kassadin from that list. Teemo is good, but somewhat unique. Cho is probably the closest to Garen; I find him quite fun but I seem to be inconsistent with him for some reason.Succinctness is pro-town.

I personally flit between Ashe, Cho'gath, Taric and Singed, depending on how I feel/what the team needs. I play Ashe a lot less than any of the others purely becauseeveryonewants to be that big bad-ass fed solo mid, whereas people tend not to expect a Cho'gath whose W is hitting for ridiculous burst as well as the silence (if you're going to play Cho, rush Rod of Ages on him, then build Mercury's Treads/Ninja Tabi, situational damage negation, then Rylai's Crystal Scepter for the extra slow and AP. Works wonders.), or a Taric who heals for 500 and is literally impossible to tower-dive pre level 10-11, making him an excellent solo bottom lane if you can control the flow of creeps properly and still last hit. And Singed is... well, just buy Boots 3, Rylai's, and take Ghost as a summoner spell. Boots of Swiftness + Ghost + your ult = 540~ movespeed before runes, and Rylai's means that people will be slowed after you fling them, slowed MORE by your glue, and slowed as long as they're in your poison. - Knight of Cydonia
