I think otolia's posts are things to be ignored.

Doing really, really well is dependent on more than just your own skill level. Forces that you have little control over can have a large impact on your ability to actually be useful (i.e.: if the rest of your team feeds, you're fucked even if you play brilliantly). Playing well is not indicated by the kills/deaths/assists score, so if you're using that as a metric stop. What I've found is that good play is dependent on things that make it easier for your
team
to win and do well rather than for
you
to do well. Positioning, communication, placing down wards, making sure that you initiate if you're the tank, sacrificing yourself to save a more valuable teammate, moving with your team when it comes to things like dragon and baron, backdooring and split pushing (even if it means dying to get that damn inhib tower down) if it matches your role, etc. If you're paying attention to these things, you're probably doing quite well.

Since I tend to play tanks / supports, my efficacy is highly dependent on my teammates. Even if I do a good job, having teammates that don't make use of it makes it worthless. Similar things like your tank making sure you live when you're a carry can change you seeming to have done super amazing to suddenly having been bad when it had nothing to do with you. Similarly, having a lot of unnecessary deaths but then being a carry and as a result getting a shitton of kills to make a "positive" score doesn't mean you did well. This is why the kils / deaths / assists don't really matter when it comes to determining ability.
don't you feel silly now?

If you prefer to be focused on one thing at a time, this game is
not for you
, and in fact I would argue that RTS in general is also not for you.

Dram was also close to his tower and able to get to it before getting into any real danger.

The lack of consistency (even when I'm playing roughly the same) is a real pain while I'm learning.

Play with players who are generally on a higher skill level than you, there ain't any ''tricks'' to improve your play it's more about the small things
Try to have better moment to moment decision making, last hit more often, buy wards with left over money, try to get dragon as often as possible. Those are the main things i usually see most people neglecting to do.

The lack of consistency... well it's probably because of playing against different people... You might get grouped up with some newbies and pupstomp them and later on get grouped with some koreans and have them annihilate you, if you generally have more wins than loses then you are on the right track.

And still you take the time to answer ... :igmeou:

" The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt. " - Bertrand Russell

---

@AGar : I have to admit myself, Riot huge success will probably install LoL as a flagship of esports. It doesn't mean the game in itself is worth being a competitive sports (this topic has already been discussed and is probably not worth discussing again) and probably not more of a respectable game than Quake Live. But you forget what the reason for the IEM : MONEY. In the DH, Riot paid huge amount of money just to have its own casting room with its own casting staff (which was tremendously bad) and for some reason succeed in installing banners of LoL everywhere. It's like the fight between linux and windows, we all know which one is the better but it doesn't mean it's the most popular.

On a side note, I perfectly agreed with what RayFrost said, just that his attack on me was (for once) uncalled for. The ELO system is designed to make the better
solo
player on the top of the ladder.
Statistically
better solo players will be on the top of the ladder. And what I meant by solo players is people who usually solo lane because if they win their lane on a regular basis, they will have all sort of advantages making them relevant during the whole game and thus increasing the chances of winning. Of course, everyone can be dragged down by someone below their level but the upper hand one can have on his lane will be effective over the course of many games thus bringing better
solo
player at the top of the
solo
ladder.
The keyword in that paragraph was
solo
.

Riot didn't pay to have it forced into IEM. ESL decided it would be more worth the investment to include LoL instead of QL because *gasp!* LoL attracts more viewers. Thus, it attracts more sponsorship. So yes, money. But stop going "WAAAAH THE COMPANY SUPPORTS THEIR GAME WAAAAAH." Companies supporting a competitive development of their game is GOOD for esports. LoL may not be the best game in terms of a competitive title, but damn people could do worse. HoN isn't cutting it for many reasons, including a lower accessibility rate than LoL. LoL is free. That one lone fact will win over enough of a share that LoL is going to crush a lot of titles in its path.

K/D proves extremely little about skill with anyone, because the worse you are, the worse your OPPONENTS are, the easier it is to get kills. K/D combined with Ranked Elo is important - in normals, skills are better shown with absolute measures.

If I had to pick some metrics for successful Twitch play...

  • Wards destroyed (by either Oracles or Vision Wards - it doesn't count if someone else gave you vision)
  • How accurately you followed Exhaust cooldowns (you should be asking teammates to type when Exhausts are burned)
  • How little you were targeted by hard cc in teamfights. The idea is that Twitch shouldn't pop out into the fight until the team has soaked up the hard cc, and then he pops spray and pray at mid ranged to the SIDE of the fight.

The point is, K/D in normals, especially from sub-thirties, proves fuck all. I've carried with ad annie in low level games. Is that because ad annie is supremely powerful? No; it's because you can get away with a lot of stupid shit in low level normals. Like in that last game, Shotty's team has 9 bf sword items and 17 total ad related items - the opposing team has 2 total armor items, one of them Kat's starting Doran's Shield. Congrats on the win, but that doesn't prove Shotty is a good Twitch - it proves the opposing team are fucking morons. Shotty had NO boots in the last picture. That's fucking awful play. Not being punished for it only proves he's against people physically incapable of punishing. It's like covering yourself in honey and meat tenderizer, running through the forest, then coming back and saying "Hey, bears are no problem at all!" No - you just haven't found any yet, and I assure you where I'm at it's all fucking bears.

I realize it's kinda cruel to talk at a banned Shotty, but I always get peeved when players throw around their KDR like it means something without a ranked elo to back it up, and I feel bad for espeonage for having to relay the message.

On the note of objective criteria, if anyone sends me a replay, I'd be happy to look it over and critique.

Stealth, that great mystical mechanic. WTF I was fighting him 1v1 and now it's 1v2 fucking noob I woulda had him. OMG twitch is 10/1/12 get oracles already noob. Why no mia call on twitch!!!?!?!

Twitch is still trash tier imo. I mean, no hero in lol is bad enough that you can't win with them, hell, no hero is so bad you can't carry with them. Twitch is just outclassed in so many respects - if you want a stealth roamer eve does more burst and has cc (well, no stun any more). The fact that it costs a few hundred gold to take a character totally out of the game is iffy for that char. Corki or fort fill aoe dps roles better than him. Stealth too binary a mechanic. If people are bad you can stomp with it. If people are at all competent, it's hard to get things done, and you become a short ranged squishy char with no escapes and no way of kiting.

At least imo, Twitch is in the bottom 5 or so characters out of the 70odd in the game. I mean who's worse? Yorick? Mundo possibly? Eve post nerfs perhaps (but at least she still has stealth-burst which is way stronger than stealth-dps)? Kat gets similarly shut down vs competent teams, but she's an even better pubstomper. Same with trynd, except that he's shut down a bit less by growing a brain. Leblanc and Heimer have shitty lategames. Kayle is fairly me. But I'd still have most of these chars on my team instead of Twitch.

I finally won a ranked game! I've been actively avoiding playing them after my first two experiences were really negative, but trying today I actually had a great team (in solo queue, no less) and I got to Amumu my way to victory. Had the most entertaining Ashe with me too. Never missed an arrow all game.
