Precisely why it ain't meaningless really, people use it as a way of getting somebody to say something dumb (to be honest, the wait till someone says something stupid method is not something I find particularly reliable for finding scum, but there you go), that and people like analysing early posts for clues, no part of the game is truly meaningless.
