If you want a pusher tank, why wouldn't you take singed? He not only has the tankiness of Shen, but he also has more damage, more utility, more usefulness in a teamfight, better ability to get away, and scales much better than Shen.

Shen is a shitty pusher since he's so slow at it. You could have your team initiated upon by the time you get anywhere near making any progress, forcing you to ult the person being nuked to hell in hopes that they won't die before you get there because your shield is so bad. If it doesn't work, you're stuck slowly pushing a lane while the rest of your team gets massacred 3v5 (or 3v4 if someone decided to come stop your push) and pushes many times faster than you.

Hell, POPPY is better at it than Shen.

Maybe I just haven't tried out the right AP carries/tanks, and I don't have the runes to jungle... who are considered the best AP carries & tanks in the game? I tried Shen out and hated him.

I could be wrong but I think Brand, Orianna and maybe Morgana are considered top level casters unless Brand became less popular due to the slight nerf. Orianna is one of the best champions in the game but tough to use, I'd suggest trying her out on freeweek before dumping IP into that. Otherwise, Annie is a good pick for being easy to use without being a weak character, Veigar has a better lategame than any other mage but requires you to tolerate a weak laning phase, Malzahar farms easily and scales decently, Lux has great range and is alot of fun, Ryze is short ranged but becomes really tanky lategame and Anivia is good but again tough to use. There are other mages but I'm sticking to ones I'm familar with.

What have you tried?

I forgot Morde. If you haven't tried him yet you should, he's in a kinda bad way right now but i think riot are buffing him soon. So easy to pick up and so much fun. Not a tank though. A beefy caster.

actually, i haven't seen orianna much since the nerfs (i spend most of my non-playing time right now watching streams, so i'm a bit up on the high elo bans/picks/whatnot

i'd say the current top tier of casters would be morgana, brand, cassiopeia

fiddle is incredibly strong as a jungler, not so much in-lane right now

orianna is pretty strong but it's harder for her to stand way outside the fight and do stuff now since she has to get closer to throw her ball in

ryze is pretty strong as well, but he's a bit of an odd duck anyways

annie is incredibly strong at lower levels, less so once people start knowing how to counter her

vlad and veigar are the only two really "trash tier" sort of casters right now as compared to the rest
stream

ffxiv/speedrunning sometimes/other things?
Maybe a silly question, but why not?

With morgana being a often picked champ for mid, I can see an AD as the counterpick. Even in the less specific cases, ashe can probably hold her ground against many casters. At the other end, you have soraka who makes quite a bit of sense next to a caster (gives mana and shreds MR?), who could be xerath or veigar for example (either should do well against AD, or should benefit a lot from the support). I mean, with the recent popularity of Urgot there, who is far from the classic ranged DPS, it isn't that silly.

The only reason I can think of is that the caster in mid would usually dominate if he or she moved to a lane with a lower level (a gank), since it's burst would then hurt significantly more, but couldn't that be solved by good coordination?
Surrender, imagine and of course wear something nice.

Ashe has problems against alot of the casters you normally see mid, though stronger laning AD carries could do it. I've done Veigar with a support bot before and it worked ok, but mages tend to need the solo XP more than AD carries.

Ashe is a really weak laner with very few strengths compared to other AD carries in the laning phase.

What have you tried?

I tried Morgana on a free week and really liked her, I think. I've played Annie, but I honestly don't like her that much. I think she's way too squishy for my liking, not to mention when I played as her, I was getting out-laned by the person I was going against because Annie's range isn't that great, and she burns through mana like a whore. I've played Veigar several times, but he's too weak early game for me. Ryze is alright, but I think he's a boring champion that isn't very fun to play.

I should definitely try playing Morgana again. Lux also looks cool, I may try her as well.

Right now, I pretty much only play Corki, Caitlyn, and Ashe. All AD carries. I definitely like the ranged champions more than non-ranged, but I also realize I've been in too many situations where my team has locked in and we don't have a tank or an AP carry, and I have to be able to play one of those.

When it comes down to support, I can pick Janna because she's fairly simple to use.

My problem with Shen is that he's fucking TERRIBLE at dealing damage, and his taunt is rather bleh. I didn't mind Rammus when I played as him during the last free week, but in general, I haven't found a tank I truly enjoy yet. I own Amumu, but the two times I've played him I've gotten raped.

Try Maokai (3150 or 6300, don't remember), Malphite (3150), Galio (6300), or Singed (1350).

For AP, I assume you like being able to do good DPS damage while being able to defend yourself?

Sounds exactly like Cassiopeia to me.

EDIT: Swain is similar as well, but Malzahar is pushing it a bit.

I'll give them a try, then. I tried Singed before and wasn't a huge fan, but I also might've built him wrong or played him wrong. I've really wanted to try Maokai, he seems cool. I didn't know he was a tank, though.

And yes, when I'm playing a carry, I like to be able to do some good damage. Though obviously I don't want to be a walking feeder either >.> That's why I hate Annie. I'll give Cassie a try... to be honest, I've never even thought about using her.

Also, Veigar's range on his stun is higher than you would think, since the range specified is simply the center.

I know; Range 600; Radius 450. Wooooooooooooooooooo~

It's a very solid radius of instant death for any caster.

--

The only main problem with Cassiopeia is that she is one of the harder casters to initially learn. There's so much about her you have to learn, and fucking up her combo can be very deadly.

Based on what Recks is saying I'd recommend Rumble for him.

Morgana's ult = one of the funnest things ever. I've ulted, had shaco stealth, and just walked toward where the tether was showing to keep pace, since he had to jump over me to get to his tower. q / w finisher.

She's also one of the champion I actually feel good about buying an early blue elixir with.

P-edit: Ank, what's your opinion of waiting to ult until after w in the case of your teammates having more cc to add to the pile? Example: ali pulv, morg q/w, then ult. Or poppy wallstun, w, ult, q.
don't you feel silly now?
