Almost like Banshee's Veil is good on pretty much anyone just for the one off spell block, health, mana and MR... oh wait, that's why HoG will never build into a HP+MR item - because a far superior one already exists, that builds out of what is for most champions a far superior early game item (Catalyst).

Banshees veil is good on squishies, don't like it so much on beefy characters who can easily have their veil popped anyway.

banshees depends on the entire opponents team. If they have a cheap, spammable (AoE) skill, it's probably not worth it. Banshee's practically gives no extra MR compared to negatron, so you are investing all the money for a bit of health, mana and that active. If it isn't going to catch one big spell every minute, it probably isn't worth the money.

AoE (Aura) spells don't trigger the Bubble. (i.e Morg's Tormented soil), but cheap, spammable nukes (i.e Karthus' Skittles) do. Just a distinction to keep in mind. Then again, you should probably have one when the enemy team has more than two mages, or heavy cc.

I like to get one on Poppy, because, as a melee, you tend to eat more spells.

Ashe's volley, Ezreals w, etc can all cheaply take out half a teams banshees, while they wouldn't hurt too much. You have that banshees for high cooldown - high damage spells, like for example a blitzgrab. If there aren't suchs spells around, or lots of the first kind, why bother taking a banshee's?

You are paying a lot for 375 health and mana, and that passive. Better make it worth it then.

Just as a comparison

quicksilver sash, 1440, 57 MR, and a debuff removal active. I'd say QSS is often, unless you are facing things as big as blitz's grab, a much more cost-effective MR item.

Depends how early on you get the catalyst component. Are you only getting after you've finished levelling? Or are you getting the regens in the mean time?

And the bubble helps in 90+% of situations I find. Karthus and other spamming characters aren't too common, and I really only need to block cc from my Ulted target anyway. All the better to hunt them down.

I'm not a big fan of banshee's. I only ever find myself wanting it for the bubble, and I usually just resort to a QSS.

tbh I judge my MR items on the opponent's team. Often on tanks I will go straight for the double negatron and get a FoN and then decide on which of the other three I want to get.

Sometimes when I play amumu and I don't need that much MR because their AP was shut down early or they don't really have any, the MR from abyssal sceptar synergizes well with his passive and makes his ult hit a little harder.

Plus the aura is nice for the AP on your team.

Actually this raises an interesting question that I have been wondering for a while. Black Cleaver or Last Whisper?

I think that depends on how many ad champs are on your tea: if you've got other ad on your team, black cleaver provides more team-wide utility while last whisper is more of a personal damage item. Not many ad champs, you get a last whisper, a sizable number (maybe three?), get a cleaver and watch everybody do major dps.

Technically, since one application ticks three times, it's like a .9 but since there's really no cool down, then...

no, MR reduces the same amount of damage no matter it's 5 tick with .3 ratio or 1 tick with 1.5 ratio.
