lol I was one of the folks who said that this game was horribly scum-sided and was slightly concerned when it was run without any of the changes I had suggested. It's a good thing that AGM knows enough about balance not to listen to my drivel. Without changing any of the mechanics, I think that

1. adding a fourth goon
2. adding a weak power role for town

would go a long way to balance this sucker.

No, whether or not it was completely and totally town-side is up for debate because I could see a really good scum team pulling this off or at least making a fighting chance. Scum got steamrolled. Plain and simple. You can't blame the setup for that. Scum hardly put up a fight and definitely didn't use the mechanic like it was supposed to be used. Using it to kill off the town's strongest players makes the mechanic really, really obvious and mostly confirms those players.

Just thought I'd respond to some of the drama in this thread...

Mafia QT reveal: I revealed the mafia Quicktopic because that is my standard policy and I do it for all my games. I'm pretty sure many other mods do it as well.So that's that.

Balance: In retrospect, this game was probably difficult for mafia to win. I apologize for that. However, it went through three reviews, so even if I had made it more town-sided in design, it probably would've ended up in the same place anyway. I don't think this is any of the reviewers' specific faults ... this game was different, making things hard to calculate for everyone. Sometimes that stuff just happens. THAT SAID, I think the scum lost this game due to poor play, not the setup.

There were three scum lynches in a row,

and Faraday/xRECK were still dead when scum lost. Plus the scum had used their daykill. Sure, it would have been rough for scum to ride the game out the rest of the way had they been alive, but they didn't even make it to the supposedly "unbalanced" part of the game. They lost way before that, meaning the town win truly was just good town performance.

Anyway, I actually like this mechanic, so I might use it again sometime in an open format. More balanced, of course.

Fate is pretty easy to fool. It seems like Fate's one determinant for whether I'm town or scum is how I react to him, so so long as I derp around his alignment properly BAM town read.

This game was funny to read. Until Fate died.
The post-game is hilarious, too. Katsuki moved to second favorite player.

VICTORY

This was my first game trying to play fast and loose, and I think it worked out quite well. I also thought we'd have four scum :O

The theme was excellently applied, it truly mirrored the source material Memento. I'm really impressed with how "reverse" mafia happened, though I think there were obviously a couple of hiccups to figure through. I think putting one scum in the dead people would be everyone's first thoughts, and so I agree with whoever it was that said scum could have gotten away with putting no scum members in there. I'd be interested in seeing how that decision was made actually.

Note that I shifted my vote from LLD to GreyICE on D3 so I obv knew there was something stinky there. The unforgivable part of my play was the switch to Elli on D4, but that was soon remedied.

Well Leonard, it was worth it.

I was a bit paranoid about the town PM, not knowing if town had any polaroids or how it was phrased.
If the point of the game was to give scum all the knowledge, then give them a town PM.
If the point was to make scum paranoid also, then success.

Very interesting game, if it is even possible I'll pre-in for AGM's next game.

About the qt: To me looking at the qt after the game is a sacred right, so please don't mess with it. An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind and all that. I made an ass of myself with all my mistakes in the qt, but meh.

Edmund: knowing how to react to players who correctly call you scum can be tricky, but outright ignoring me was just incredibly scummy. Maybe think: "How would I react as town in this situation?" and try to mirror that ^^
