So what, melee that scales with AP? I can't do melee unless they have unbelievable health (shen and Cho come to mind)....I feed when I try. Sucks cause he looked real cool.ShowIn your Viscera Eyes

Ignore unit collision + reduced damage from basic attacks. Never have to worry about getting creepwalled, and should be strong against enemy right clickers.

Lux is so much fun to play. Riven is so much fun to play. Alistar is so much fun to play.
I should just play lux/riven/alistar every game. But I like being a bruiser and just hitting things, too, so meh. I would jungle more, but only fun jungler is rammus (for the zoomzoom!)
#1 lux playstyle: start dorans ring and take e level 1. Scout for your jungler with e. Take boots pots only if the matchup needs it (e.g. against a skillshot champion). Max e and q (e first) and only take a point in w when you have to. In lane, harass with e (be frugal pre level 3, as it costs too much mana and does too little damage at that point) and dont use q at all. Only use q when the enemy laner starts running at you - they're now a super easy target. Q-auto-e-auto out trades just about anything at this point.
You want 2-3 dorans rings in lane and then get a deathcap. Your e harass will push the lane, so going back when the wave htis tower and buying a second dorans, boots and ward is a solid play. Without dorans rings, your mana bar will feel very starved and you have to play a lot more defensive, only saving mana for q combos. Get blue from jungler and start infinite push/harass spam. Post level 6, every time you land a q, ult the snared person - getting that damage guaranteed is extremely potent (and try to avoid ulting when the opponent is not snared). The cooldown is low enough, and the ult popping your passive makes this hit like a truck. If you get an opportunity, your full combo is q-e(dont pop)-ult-auto-pop e-auto but you have to skip steps frequently as you may not have enough time. If the enemy has merc treads your snare will not last long enough to give a guaranteed ult hit any more.
Sorc shoes and magipen in general super good on lux because her passive basically means all her spells have 200 extra base damage and her ratios are pretty mediocre. Her lategame would be subpar, but the ult spam and harass when pushing towers means she can get away with relatively low ratios. If you cant get blue buff, you need a morello's evil tome. Lux also benefits from ridiculous range, which allows her to build practically pure glass cannon and get away with it, and hence gives her an edge over her rivals - especially if she has cdr from morellos or blue buff, as lux with cdr is ridiculous kiting glory. After your 2-3 dorans rings, get a deathcap asap. After that buy standard ap stuff.
#1 riven playstyle: start cloth/5 or dorans blade depending on the matchup. Riven's early game is totally insane - I dont think there's a champion in the game who can trade with her at level 1 if she has dorans and full offence tree - her q itself does very mediocre damage, but her empowered autos chew through people as you'll easily be doing 100 damage a swing - at level 1!. A more defensive setup (defence tree and cloth/5) is better against certain champions who can overcome her insane early early game and start to make better trades with her like garen or renekton. Being in a position to just farm is also good for you, as you also just outscale the fuck out of pretty much everyone. Riven's late game is about as retardedly good as her early game. If you need the sustain, wriggles is probably your best option. It gives every stat riven could want except MR. If you need early mr because the other team has a ton of magic damage and/or you're laning against a magic damage character hexdrinker is an ok option. Bruta may look appealing, but it has a number of downsides - ghostblade is a very mediocre item in 99% of cases, and your midgame is generally a bit meh and youre probably better off building for lategame. Rivens number one goal in lane is to acquire a bloodthirster.
(Remark: Riven is a bit like garen, in that she loves fighting when you both are lowish hp. A riven may well trade at a disadvantage once or twice and then pop her ult, deal her burst and execute with the second ult activation. Riven's burst with her ult up is probably twice what it is with her ult down, and she can therefore use it to bait like a boss.)
Riven has unbelievable ad scaling. Bloodthirster plays off that. In particular, Riven has a shield that scaled 1:1 with ad. Getting a shit ton of ad, then, also makes you tankier. If you manage to use your shield three times in a fight, it's better than jax passive. Generally you dont get that, but since your shield is already giving you what is effectively health, what you want is pure resistances. GA is great for this, but of course any resistance item is good. A lot of the resistance items cause you to spend money on mana, however. Remember as a rule of thumb that the best resistances per cost are actually the base items, the chain vest and the negatron cloak. You want to either be buying these or rushing GA after your thirster. With just a GA and a stacked thirster, Riven becomes actually incredibly hard to kill, as she not only has her shield and her resistances but is also lifestealing a shit ton from her BT (and possibly her wriggles lantern). BT is basically the only damage item you need until last whisper, so just get tankier until then. After the initial resistances, health is fine in the form of warmogs or frozen mallet or w/e.
Riven can farm wherever the hell she wants and probably should. Catching riven is very very hard. Escaping riven is very very hard. Your midgame goal is getting as strong as possible asap. Farm farm farm farm farm. Think of yourself as a girlier nasus. Who isnt a dog. And who isnt as tanky as a built nasus, but who doesnt get kited nearly as hard.
Riven is squishy enough to be a mediocre pick against teams with a lot of aoe and/or a lot of hard disables. Other than that, she runs riot and has to be focused down to stop her. The key to avoiding focus fire, as with most squishy melees, is picking your moment to go in. You very rarely want to be initiating - let the jungler or support tank do that shit. Timing your ultimate is important - when your ult is up, you kill everything. So don't waste it. The secondary part of the ult can be devastating in teamfights, but her primary goal is just to hit anything squishy repeatedly with scary aoe damage.
#1 Alistar playstyle: Go bot with an ad carry. Max heal or q depending on whether you're winning or not - maxing heal gives bullshit sustain (even after the nerfs) but maxing q makes you more of an offensive threat. Q actually gains less damage per level than w, but you rarely want to w without qing, and w's cooldown is much shorter than q. Maxing q brings the cooldowns in line and guarantees you'll have a q for every w.
Do all the generic support stuff - cving their jungler, warding your lane, etc etc. Alistar specific is using your w-q combo. You need to be able to land this reliably. Every time you hit w on a target, just immediately start spamming q as soon as w starts casting. This will immediately pulverise as soon as the headbutt hits, allowing you to instantly cc a target from a distance. This combo is brutal in lane, as it actually does a fair amount of damage straight up to the enemy and also traps them in position for your carry to start raping them. Remember to always be wary of being aggressive against the other team's support in lane, as it may be that while you and your carry wail on the soraka, the vayne is sitting their shitting on your ad carry. Its not always wrong to attack the other support, but its frequently suboptimal.
Your ult can be used for tower diving, but at level 6 you can probably only take 3-4 tower hits max when also combined with the damage of the character you're diving. Bear this in mind and be wary of diving full health champions. As buttons would have you know, the recentish nerf to his ultimate really did put a dent in his ability to tower dive early.
Your kit is hyper versatile in teamfights. Flash pulverise is godly initiation, but be wary of putting yourself in too much danger - as a support, you never really have enough gold to get super tanky. Timing your ult is important - remember, it breaks cc, but also substantially reduces damage done to you. Pop it too early and no one will bother hitting you. Pop it too late and you die anyway. You need to be somewhere between appealing and safe in your ultimate usage. Breaking cc with it is also really good. Pulverise is a great spell and should be used pretty much on cooldown in teamfights, bearing in mind that its important to distinguish between whether you should be using alistar's godly initiation, godly peeling, or ok carry diving with the pulverise. Basically, you need to work out whether the enemy team's carry is significantly higher value than your team's carry, in which case locking them down with cc at the expense of leaving your carry vulnerable is viable. But generally just babysit your carries and shoo off the nasty bruisers and assassins. Headbutt is far more subtle, and I found the greatest improvement in my Alistar play came when I started being far more circumspect with my headbutt usage. Remember, headbutt is a spell that can actively harm your team or seriously help it, and the difference between a good headbutt and a bad headbutt is massive. Its therefore important to only use headbutt in situations where you're certain it will be useful - dont just spam it cause its up and its a spell you can use. As you become more circumspect, you'll quickly realise that there are many good spots to use a headbutt in a teamfight as long as you are patient and dont rush it.

Sometimes you just get awesome kills. Like when Rammus is tanking a tower, and you Knock him backwards (Tris Ult), and the tower switches to (and kills) Sona.
And I agree on the Bunnygirl Riven. I would learn Riven just for that skin.ShowHe'sbaaa-aaack

Somewhere JD just started smiling and doesn't know why.
Holy crap new mastery trees are niiiiice.
Only downside is Dodge is now removed from the game except for JaxRoutine day with a dirt cheap brush
Then a week goes by and it goes untouched
Then two, then three, then a month

So I just bought Brand and I'm having a lot of fun... but I'm having issues. Early game 3v3 I was working jax and then he got his jump and it was game over. What do I do?-

Brand is very combo dependant.
If Jax has just jumped on you, your combo is E -> Q -> W
The reason for this is that you get a stun off with little trouble, while also having the extra damage from W.
You'll run out of mana if you aren't careful, but he should take the hint to be more defensive in the lane pretty quickly.- SpyreX

Getting 2-3 Dorans Rings on Brand at the start is generally not a bad idea. It allows you to gain that early game advantage that you usually get from a Rod of Ages, but it's cheaper and allows you to get that Rabadons Deathcap much faster. Since Brand has incredible default values and excellent burst damage, getting that extra AP and Rabadons faster makes a huge difference in his scaling.
Other excellent items are Rylais Crystal Sceptor, Void Staff (derp), Abyssal Sceptor, Banshees Veil (if fed AP), Zhonyas Hourglass (if you need the stasis, against Karthus, or against AoE setups), or Frozen Heart (depending on if you really need that lowered ASpd on enemy AD's. Generally a last resort item). I've never tried a Lich Bane, but it could probably work.
Naturally you sell your rings when you're running out of item slots.
EDIT:
I can also go into more detail with combos if you want.Last edited by Ankamius on Sat Nov 12, 2011 12:36 am, edited 1 time in total.
