IMO a Thornmail is a good to get on Rammus. Your AD scales off Armourand so does DBC.You have a taunt to keep them hitting you, and taking lots of lovely return damage.
And I prefer to get mercs on Rammus. You have speed already, and the less time you're locked down,the more you can be in their faces, taunting their carries(with all that lovely return damage), and tremoring their team.ShowHe'sbaaa-aaack

A) Thornmail is 2K, that's a ton for a jungler.
B) Agreed on Mercs.
C) Rammus job isn't to be deeeepsing all the things with thornmail/DBC, it's to slam into their team, slow some heros, grab onto a target and hold them in place forcing a fight while optionally outputting some AoE dmg. He needs to be tough enough to run into an entire team, eat the damage output of five heros (even if they blow zero CDs it's still a lot and then have the AD carry (aka the most damaging thing on their team) focus him. Toughness is paramount, a Rammus that did 800 damage in a team fight but is alive afterwards to run down anyone that tries to get away and hold them in place for the slower members of his team (aka everyone but Kassadin) to catch up and secure another kill which allows them to go take an objective (which rammus can tank) is more effective then a Rammus who deals 2k dmg but dies.

It depends on the enemy carry. Tristana? Thornmail lolololo. Cait? Nope.
I also prefer Mercs. My usual build is cloth+5pots, get boots ASAP, get Wriggle's ASAP, then do whatever the fuck you please (usually meaning a HoG+Aegis), then a Warmog's, and at this point the enemy AD carry should be farmed enough to kill himself while taunted (assuming that it's the right carry, ofc).lmao Fate = Jake from State Farm & Pisskop- Staeg

The purpose of rammus isn't just "counter all physicals" - he's an AMAZING initiator with the ability to then ensure one person stays very still as they get raped a new ass. This aspect of him (AMAZING ganks with no cost to late game initiating powers) is not related to the damage type of the enemy team.don't you feel silly now?- Staeg

Ugh... I still don't have the hang of Cassie yet. I want to burst people down SO BAD but I can't. It's hard for me not to want to just go after someone when I hit them with my Q and twin fang them down to nothing (and yes, I'm smartcasting). I need to get it through my head that Cassie isn't burst.
Though, question... laning phase I usually do fine, but I can't really figure out how to use Cassie in teamfights. Obviously ult the whole team if possible, but what if my ult's on CD?green shirt thursdays- Staeg

you have some burst, learning when it is and is not safe to go at it with E is an important skill to learn

Just cause his damage scales with armour doesn't mean you should build armour to do damage.
Thornmail is a good rammus item, its just not what you get first. If you want to survive initiating fights (as your dbc is NOT going to be up when you powerball in) what you need is mitigation against magic damage as it is the mages, not the ads, who will wreck you early. An annie q-w will easily take off giant chunks of your life bar if you have no health or mr. You tend to get health first because once you have health that then scales with your dbc and makes you a seriously tanky mofo, but getting a fast negatron cloak is by no means bad either. Once you have health, atmas becomes more valuable than thornmail. Then FoN gives you movespeed and keeps you safe against burst while initiating and aoe while fighting. You dont need thornmail to be anti-physical.
There are of course situations where getting an earlier thornmail is good, like when the enemy team is yi-tryndamere-tristana or something silly. But its basically a lategame item, made to be able to deal with a farmed ad who can just two shot everything with crits etc. Rushing thornmail is really mediocre, even with the taunt forcing people to hurt themselves on it.(10:50:24 PM) xcaykex: GODDAMNIT I DONT WANNA GET RID OF MY TENTACLE RAPE PORN
