Why would you stack attack speed, crit, and AD on a champ, yet not get the single item that singlehandedly makes the entire setup much more effective.
If you're talking about early game, then it's different in some cases. I'm talking about endgame setups.

I really like the look of the archer champ but my friends have all developed tryndamere syndrome within 3 days of each other so playing lol at the moment is a waste of time and sanity.

Depends on the champ. I like Bloodthirster first on champs that can duel or need to be closer like Graves or Trist, otherwise I like to go for IE first. Generally though I will get a vamp while I'm building my IE and saving up for the BF sword and such.
