The Games

The following will be the subgames in Team Mafia 2012:
1.
White Flag Mountainous
. Moderated by Equinox. This game is mountainous (no power roles) in a 10 vs. 3 format. However, town wins if they can eliminate two of the three scum in the game.
2.
Closed Normal Game
. Moderated by hasdgfas. This game is a closed normal that will follow all of the requirements for a Mini-Normal.
3.
"Almost Normal."
Moderated by zoraster. This game is close to normal, but the moderator makes no promises that it will follow the normal requirements. The game name is part of the mechanic as such, and "Almost Normal" is merely a placeholder. This game only has 12 players (9 town vs. 3 scum).
4.
The Scummies
. Moderated by Lost Butterfly (Faraday and Mina). Players will be made judges in groups that will award Scummies awards (granting powers to certain players). I don't know how much further Faramina want me to go into the mechanics of how they're doing it, so I'll leave it there.
5.
Mafia in the Back Room
. Moderated by Vi. The spiritual successor to Mafia MetaMafia. This game is somewhat mechanic heavy.

Definitions

To make it easier on us all, “Team” will be the four players that you will win or lose the big-shebang with. “Side” will be the side/team your players will be on in an individual subgame.

Game Draft

After sign ups go up, I will announce the draft order of the teams. Each team will submit a list of the five games they want. The games will be filled according to snaking draft order.

Role Assignments

After the draft takes place, your team will get a PM with four role PMs, one for each game your team is in. You must then PM the moderator with which player you wish to have which role.

Dynamic Deadlines

Every game will use the following “dynamic deadline” system: Day deadlines will range from 10-16 days and Night deadlines will range from 24-72 hours depending on the speed of the game versus the other games. These deadlines will be set by the Supervisor (Zoraster), not the individual moderators. Don’t bitch at them; I'm the
droid
mod you're looking for.

There will be no banked deadlines. There will be no game-specific extensions. However, there may be some form of Team Mafia wide extensions granted if circumstances require it.

Team QTs

1.Your team will have a Team quick topic. All discussion regarding the game should take place in the quick topic. HOWEVER, you may PM your teammates at any time telling them to check on the QT if you CC Zoraster.
2. You may copy and paste whatever you want INTO the team QT. You may
not
copy and paste text OUT OF the QT.
3. You may continue to post in this QT even when you are dead.
4. You have nearly complete freedom on what you can post in your QT with regards to the game. Most restrictions are about what you can post in game threads. Site rules still apply.

Alternate Methods of Communication

1. Your team members may communicate through use of text-based communication such as IM programs (AIM, Gchat, the text part of Skype, etc.) so long as you are able to copy and paste in a readable form into a QT.
2. If you do so, you must copy ALL of the transcript where you talk about anything relating to the game into your QT. Make sure your logging is ON so that if you get disconnected you still have the transcript.
3. Please try to make this readable. Please turn off timestamps as they make it pretty hard to read in a quick topic.
4. Please edit out completely unrelated chat. You can leave in small talk when you IM someone or whatever, but the mods don't need to pour through a dozen lines talking about how drunk you got last weekend, how well you're doing with LoL, etc. unless it somehow relates to the game.
5. For all other purposes, consider this IM chat just an extension of your QT. Any rules that apply there also apply to your IM conversations. For example, no player may paste from an IM conversation into a game thread.
6. You should paste the transcript in immediately after you finish your conversation.

Talking About Other Games

1. Players may mention other games within Team MAfia only to talk about things that have been mod confirmed such as what a player flipped when they were killed. They may not speculate about another game’s players (such as who is scummy and so forth). You may not talk about how bad a wagon was, etc. You must keep it to only the information provided by the moderator.
2. To reiterate: speculation about other games is prohibited.
3. Any attempt to try to signal to another game what they should or should not do is against the rules.
4. Attempts to be “clever” and circumvent these rules will be treated harshly. We will “pierce” hypothetical questions or answers, ignoring the hypothetical nature and assume that it is meant to be a factual statement.
5. A major violation is defined as one that has the potential to be game breaking. For example, if your teammate is dead and flipped town, posting about who is scummy in that game will be a major violation.
6. Explicitly Allowed: You may mention who is on each team. You may mention what stage (e.g. Day 2) a game is in. You may mention how many players are left alive from a team, including your own. You may mention how many scum have been killed/alive in a particular game (or town alive/killed), knowing that all games are 10v3 or 9v3. You may talk as much as you wish about a game that is finished.
7. None of this applies to your team QT. You may post what you wish in there.

Your Teammates are Always Innocent Until Proven Guilty

1. You may at no time say, indicate, insinuate, etc. that your Team Mafia teammates are or might be anything other than town. This includes in any hypothetical situation.
2. Exception: You may talk about your teammates being scum if they have flipped scum in another game (i.e. are dead).
3. If a player is NOT on your team and is still alive in another game, you must follow the rules in the Talking About Other Games thread. In other words, you may not speculate on a player's alignment in another game.

Replacements

1. It is your job to replace team members who are not active. If a moderator has to take action, there will be a penalty.
2. To replace a team member, you must PM Zoraster AND the moderator of your subgame.
3. You may replace with anyone who is not currently on a Team Mafia team. However, only four people may be involved in the QT at any time. A replaced team member may not participate in any way unless he is replaced back in.
4. A teammate who died in one game may replace another player so long as (a) he does not mention that game at all.
5. A dead player may still be replaced so long as the team follows 3.
6. You may switch two players who are alive in games ONCE for the duration of Team Mafia 2012. It must be done in D1 or D2.
7. The mod will force replace any player who has not posted within a week of his last post (not including Night). This will come at a penalty to the team.[/spoiler]

Winning the Game, Simple

To win Team Mafia, your team should care about the following
in order of importance
:
1. Winning each game you play in
2. Winning each game you play in “big” (i.e. having more of your team surviving at the end)
3. Being on a “correct” wagon on D1 when your team is town or at the very least not being on an “incorrect” wagon on D1 when your team is town (see below).
4. Surviving to the end.
Removed
5. Having your players lead their side to victory and having all your teammembers working well together within their QT.

Spoiler: Winning explained in depth, tie breaks, and penalty points
Winning the Game, Elaborated

Victory will be decided in a different and slightly more complicated manner. First, we will determine who wins based on the following formulas:

For each town victory your team had (results rounded to nearest whole number):
[(Number of Surviving Town Members + 25) / (Average Number of Surviving Town Members Across all town wins + 25)]*100
For each scum victory your team had:
[(Number of Surviving Mafia Members * 2 + 25)/(Average number of surviving mafia members across all scum wins * 2 + 25 )]*100
Note: For a White Flag mafia victory, subtract 0.5 from number of surviving mafia members on both sides of the division sign.
The team with the most combined points will win.

Essentially, the better your side does compared to other same-alignment sides in other games, the better you'll do. So if there are two town victories out of the 5 game, and Game A had 7 players alive and Game B had 2 players left alive, respectively, the number of points for each game will be:
Game A: [(7+25)/(4.5+25)]*100 = 108 points
Game B: [(2+25)/(4.5+25)]*100 = 92 points

then say Games C, D, and E all ended in scum victories with 3, 2, and 1 scum left respectively.
Game C: [(3*2+25)/(2*2+25)]*100 = 107 points
Game D: [(2*2+25)/(2*2+25)]*100 = 100 points
Game E: [(1*2+25)/(2*2+25)]*100 = 93 points

So if Team A won in Game A, C and D it would have 308 points. If Team B won Game B, D and E it would have 285 points, so Team A would win.

Tie Break

If there is a tie above, the following tie breakers will be employed:

First:
among tied teams use the following formula: [{(Number of D1 lynches on a correct lynch as town * 3) - (Number of times that your team was incorrect about a D1 lynch as town)}/(Number of Games Your team was town)]

NOTE: Being "on a lynch" only counts if the person you are voting for when the lynch goes through is the person who is lynched. Being "incorrect" about a lynch either means voting for someone at the end of the Day who goes to lynch and is town *or* NOT voting someone at the end of the Day who goes to lynch and is SCUM *or* being the person who IS lynched. Also note that this only considers your actions as a town member.

NOTE 2: If any team that was tied had four mafia victories, skip to step 2.

Second:
If it is still a tie then the teams still tied with the most survivors after the end game finishes will win.
Removed

Second:
Head-to-head will be used to break the tie. In other words, any time two teams were on different sides in the same game, whoever was victorious there will break the tie. If there are conflicting results (e.g. Team A beat Team B, Team B beat Team C, Team C beat Team A or Team A beat Team B in Game 1 and Team B beat Team A in Game 2), move to the third tie break, removing any teams that only lost in head-to-head matches. Note that ANY conflicting result moves this on to the third tie break even if Team A beat Team B twice and Team B only beat Team A once.


Third:
If it is still a tie then the still tied teams will be evaluated on two criteria: (1) how much their team members were effective in leading their side to victory (note: losses are not considered, even if it was a valiant effort) and (2) how well their team worked together in all games. This will be evaluated by the moderators of the Team Mafia 2012 with Zoraster having the ultimate decision.

NOTE: For part two, we will almost entirely base this on activity in the QT.

Penalties (all assessed by the Supervisor, Zoraster)

These penalties will be assessed to the victory points above, not to the tie breaker.
Team Replacing Their Own Player: 0 points (no penalty)
Mod having to force replace a player because of inactivity: -5 points
Supervisor determining that a player is abusing prod dodging (must be repeated): -5 points
Violating the Talking About Other Games Section: For minor offenses: First time -1 point or a warning depending on severity, Second+ -5 points. For major offenses: -5 points to mod kill on either or both members violating, depending on severity.
Copying directly FROM a team QT INTO a game: First time warning, Second time -1 point, Third+ -5 points
Repeated or beyond the pale abuse: -1 to -20 points, depending on severity
Disruptive Behavior: -1 to -10 points, depending on severity -- Will only be penalized if the moderator of any game that is affected refers the matter to Zoraster and he agrees. Zoraster will not unilaterally penalize unless it affects his subgame.
Causing a force replacement because of behavior: -10 to -50 points, depending on severity
Causing a mod kill: -10 to -100 points, depending on severity, PLUS no chance for the team to win that subgame.
Discretionary Penalties: At the discretion of Zoraster.
Cheating: Depending on how infected the team is anything ranging from force replacing as above to disqualification of an entire team. Plus the action WILL be referred to mith, etc. for further action.
Encouraging Others to Violate a Rule: Warning up to the penalty that would be assessed on the encouraged behavior.

I don't know if I'd be able to get a team together, but how long would the deadlines be?/when are the games expected to finish?

Change Log: Removed the secondary tie break of surviving to the end. It seemed like a double penalty for busing (since the original point system already somewhat discourages busing), and it encouraged some behavior we didn't want to reward.
We may come up with another secondary tie breaker as I'm not excited about the prospect of subjectively judging again.
. A new secondary tie break has been added, taking into account head-to-head results.

Note: Everyone from the previous team mafia will get a PM soon. I'm sure many will already be aware of it, but I'm just PMing everyone.

Also, added a list of players who are looking for a team or teams looking for a player. I'll keep this more or less up to date, but if I miss someone just state it again. As Vi mentioned, however, generally the most effective way to wrangle a team is to PM people.

By the by, if you have 3 or 4 of your teammates together and a team name, I'd be happy to give you your official Team QT. I'll also monitor these if you have any questions you don't want to ask in public.

Obviously getting a Team QT doesn't assure you a spot playing in Team Mafia 2012, but it may help you get organized and start thinking about how you want to approach the game.
