It'd be the great weakenss of the charachter. Avoiding the situation. It'd definately be an advanced role.

If used at he right moment it can twist the game

e.g.

the king has 7 people to choose from 4 are mafia/werewolves so titanic kills itself and 5 people left at least 2 mafia are revealed

Okay:

Mafia guys
Townies
Doctor
Town Cop
Mafia Cop
Pro-town Swinger
Pro-Mafia Swinger
Sounds like a really crazy game to me, especially if you let the swingers talk to their allied cops.

Here's an idea, someone tell me if this sounds interesting or horrible.

3 scum, 9 townies.

Every night each person in the game receives a different role, selected at random from a list of roles. This happens at the beginning of every night (ie. after the lynch scene and before night choices are sent in). The scum are given roles as well; the vigilante role does nothing for them, but all other roles function as normal. However, since one member of the scum group has to make the kill, they can choose to either use their random ability or to kill, but not both. When players start to die, the same distribution will stay used, except some roles just won't get sent out (selected, again, randomly).

Obviously, the point of this game is to keep power-roles (which I think are interesting) but make roleclaims transitory and mostly pointless, because your role will change the next night. This means the scum choose who to kill based on player skill rather than who is the doc/cop/mason/etc.

As for the potential roles (they will be an open list viewable to all players), I'm thinking:

-Doctor
-Vig
-Roleblocker
-Tracker
-Role Copier
-Psychic (sees who has a specific role)
-Bulletproof
-Mystery Role (something not terribly overpowered but still useful; I have an idea for this one, and if I actually do this setup I'll have someone make sure it's not imbalanced)
-4x townie

The absences of cops and masons are intentional; masons would be pointless and cops would essentially give the town a free investigation every day because there's no downside to them claiming, as someone else would get the role.

Thoughts? Is it interesting, boring, balanced, horribly skewed, what?

The only qualm I have is that the Role Copier might make the night a little longer than you like. But otherwise, I see no problem, it's sort of like Aelyn(sp?)'s mafia with the different objects (I don't remember what it's called)

I was considering making the role copier "blind" (ie. does not know what role he gets), but I'm worried it might be a useless role then.

Nah, not really, it just makes the Role Copier a little more careful. It wouldn't be the first time it's been done.

Shamrock, for more ideas you can take a look at the ideas for Gadget Mafia (also featuring mostly-randomly changing roles) that I posted in the Open Setups thread, and also Aelyn's Roleswap Mini which is linked there. (That thread was created for the purpose of having discussions like this, so maybe it's a good idea to move there anyway.)

I think everyone will mass claim abilities every day. Scum can't lie very safely about this. That makes me think the psychic is useless overkill.

I think the general idea is worth a shot though.

I thought of a similar thing a little while ago, body swap mafia. The town is caught in an evil experiment and they change bodies every night, the abilities are tied to the bodies. When a person is lynched, whatever abilitiy they had goes w/ the body. I'm not sure if it was in the set up review thread or back a page in this one...

EDIT: LOL, I forgot the whole reason I looked at this thread :D. While I was off at SFA (Axe em Jacks!) waiting to register for classes, I remembered something that we did in Sophmore English (the same class where I first played mafia *sigh*).

The game is called angels and skulls. Basically, the teacher said, each student gets a card w/ their name on it and 2 choices, angel or skull. If ALL the students in the class choose angel, everyone gets 10 points on the last test we took. If just one player chooses skull, that player gets 30 extra points, and everyone else just gets 5 points. If 2 players choose skull, then they each get 20 points, and everyone else gets 3 points. If 3 students choose skull then they get 15 points each, and no one else gets any points. If more than three people choose skull, then no one gets any points. (our class had 3 people choose skulls, bunch of pricks.)

But, how does this pertain to mafia you ask? Why bundles of course :D. I'm trying to think up a game, where each night players send in angel or skull, and recieve points depending on the outcome of the selections. Players will be able to preform tasks depending on the points they have, and some roles will be able to get extra abilities depending on if they pick angel or skull.

The point system will be something like...

everyone gets 5 points if no one picks skull.
1 skull - 15, everyone else 3
2 skull - 10, everyone else 1
3 skull - 7, everyone else 0
4 or more skull, everyone who chooses skull is NKed. (nice twist eh?)

Bonuses for points will be an everyone gets after X points thing.
10 points - 1 shot role block
20 points - 1 shot investigation
30 points - 1 shot doc protect
40 points - 1 shot vig (day or night)
50 points (and every 10 points after) - get to choose one of the other 4 choices.

I may add or subtract things, but that's the basics. There will also be roles that can double points recieved by target player, get extra stuff when they choose skull, get really good things if everyone chooses angel, ect.

What do you think?

I have got an idea it's normal mafia but instead of voting who you want to lynch you vote who you want to keep alive. carry on until the final 2 then you vote who you want to lynch.

The Twist.

each ballot lasts 3 days and even if no majority is reached the person with the most votes is protected. In the case of a draw a person is selected to make the final decision.

Not bad. The only thing is that sometimes the town will know who they want to lynch and they won't need/want 3 days per player to express it.

Max, what I mean is that if the town starts the day knowing who they want to lynch, due to a cop result or something, they can't just vote that player out. They have to spend days voting protections on everyone else.

ERM good point

I have a new idea the town decide everything

they decide the lynch
the cop search (everyone knows result)
the doc protection (in private)
the bus drivers move (also in private)
magistrate protection (in public)
Role Block (in private)
Vote Double (in private)
Lose Vote (in private)

The only problem is mafia help decide everything

I have a Batman Mafia game I am trying to put together. I would love some help because of my little experience. Mainly trying to balance things out. Also, a lot, I mean, a lot happens at night. Well, if anyone is interested in helping and maybe even running it, PM me.

Update on Batman Mafia:

I have a rough draft of everything. Of course it needs ironing out. Help would be appreciated, also, PM me if you would be interested in playing some time. Looks like a 25-30 person game.

thanks

I'm not certain, Romanus, but you don't look like you meet the requirements for running a Theme Park game. You should probably check the post at the front of the Free Market thread.

Oh, I don't plan on running it right now, I even stated that someone else could run it. It also could take some time to iron things out. I know that I am no where near ready to mod a game, I just have an idea for a theme I would like to see, whether I mod it a year from now or if someone else does it two weeks from now.

Also just wanted to see if there would be any interest.

What about a twisted UPick game?

There's a number of places (numbers), and when people sign up, they choose a number, and the role behind that number is what they get.

Sound fun? Dumb? Idiotic? Anything?!
