obbi Jim was angry with Millie. First she had insisted on coming to Paris - the capital of surrender monkeys, go figure - for their marriage anniversary, then she dragged the whole family to a daft museum babbling something about "that one cheese code". And now they were lost. He checked the map again. Yes, not only did he not want to come but he was in charge of navigation too, and with the people here living up to their reputation of unhelpful arrogance, they had been wandering the stupid place for hours looking for the escape hatch.

The kids were hungry, his bladder was threatening to explode right here on the marble floor, and even Milie was starting to show worrying signs of acute dehydration. He imagined being back home and telling everything to the Tossville Gazette; he pictured his photo in the papers, the headline - "How I almost died in France, but at least the omelette was good", the hero welcome...

A little cheered up by his comforting thoughts, Bobbi turned left and took an optimist stride into the next room, oblivious to the interdiction sign on the door. His family trailing behind him, Bobbi came to a startled stop before the scene of altercation taking place in the room: a dozen people were assembled and vehemently arguing with each other , a tall woman who looked like a police officer was holding a small winged figurine in her hand and saying something in an authoritative voice to the part protesting, part supportive crowd.

"I think she said that they were going to destruct it," Millie, who a lifetime ago had taken lessons in French, murmured to him. As if on cue, the woman produced a metal saw and made short work of sawing through the figurine's neck, detaching its head which dropped to the floor with a clunk.

Puzzled by the the strange scene, Bobbi jumped when he was seized by the elbow. The bulky man holding on his arm said something to him, then seeing his dumbfounded face, repeated in approximative English, "What are you doing 'ere? You 'ave no buziness 'ere. You 'ave to leave pleaze." And before he knew it, Bobbi and his family were led through to the door, which was unceremoniously shut behind them.

When he recovered from surprise, Bobbi started fuming. Who do these people think they are! How dare they throw him out like a criminal! How dare they yell, maltreat and manhandle him and his family when he wasn't doing anything wrong!

The press was going to hear about this!

he night had been long, but the sun rose bright and perhaps hopeful. That was Marguerite Pompon's mood when she came in to work this morning and set to clean the floor of the Richelieu aisle before the visitors' arrival. The mood had been quite heavy at her workplace ever since the poor directeur's murder, and in her opinion the authorities have shown to be been quite incompetent so far. She hoped that the insanity having led to the destruction of a fine piece of art would cease now. After all since the Louvre was a public museum, all the treasures here belonged to her as much as any other honest tax payer - in a sense it was her propriety that had been destructed for nothing, and she didn't like that. Plus all the negative press, it was not good for the museum's reputation, and she didn't want to see the Louvre close and lose her job. At her age and in these economic times...

Heaving a sigh, Marguerite gave an energetic swipe with her mop and resolutely chased her morose thoughts away. The ground floor was almost finished, two more rooms and she'll be done. She'll be back at home in time to watch her morning soap opera.

She was contemplating stopping at the boulangerie to treat herself to a macaron when she stepped into room 33 and ejaculated a small startled cry. Broken glass and the pieces of a shattered sculpture littered the floor. A small golden trinket lay amidst the mess.

Well, Marguerite thought, she'd be lucky to be back in time for the afternoon sitcoms.
