Raj, how are you going to start in night in a day only game?

I've got a great Idea

MAFIA MAFIA

The Mafia- which are really cops

The mafia consists of cops all with special abilities -Cop role

1 RB
1 GF
1 MC

No nightkill OMG

the town- which are really mafia

1 vig
3 cops
2 docs
2 RB (also block votes)
3 double voters

the niethers

1 SK - both NK and Cop Immune
1 Bounty Hunter - picks 3 people each night if any of them die he gains a night kill but if none do he dies
1 Robber - picks a house a night if noone is at that house (inc. town which are really mafia voting to kill) they get 15 thousand pounds (if he gets 45 thousand pounds he wins)

This is bit of a drft but it would make an interesting game

What's "MC"?

I think that town is way too powerful. How can 3 mafia compete against 8 power roles and 3 double voters?

It doesn't help the mafia at all to have cop abilities when there's no other bad guys to detect.

Yeah, I see this being a slaughterhouse in favor of the town-that-is-really-a-mafia.

Alright, possible themes:
1984 mafia
Animal Farm mafia
Jennifer Government mafia

Considering all of these are hypothetical atm, if anyone has any ideas, or wants to help me out, I would be appriciative!

Yeah, but it's still an easily confirmable role.

3 double voters=3 confirmed innocents.

3 cops will either wipe out the scum or confirm most of the rest of the town in a day or two. Everyone but the godfather'd be toast fast, and the scum godfather would still be found destroyed by the two town roleblockers.

The scum would have no chance of winning at all, almost no matter how badly the town played.

I'm considering an open setup game that would, I think, be considered theme (can't see it being normal, and it's not quite experimental):

Smalltown mafia - everyone knows everyone else - roles are revealed (as in, there for everyone to see, on the player list), but are unrelated to alignment. I figure the town wants a bit more power behind it (and I like giving everyone an active role), but classic roles seem too breaking, so I figure weaker, more obscure roles are the way to go.

Something like:
1 Gunsmith
1 Forensic Cop
1 Bodyguard
1 Faith healer
1 Vigilante
1 Bomb
1 Beloved Princess (if mafia member, skips a Night instead of a Day)
1 Tracker
1 Commuter
1 Cowardly Reporter
1 Doublevoter
1 Executioner

With 3 of the above being mafia (1 kill per night, 1 mafioso has to be sent to perform it, and must skip their other ability), and 1 SK (1 kill per night plus his standard ability - if tracked, shows both targets).

I think if the SK gets tracked when the SK made two moves, the tracker should get the target that wasn't the nightkill target. That way it's a little perk for the SK. Otherwise if the tracker gets two results, he knows he's found the SK, and that seems a little rough.

It looks like you have an awful lot of killing roles there.

What's the point of a gunsmith in an open role game like that, Adele?

The cool thing about gunsmith is that if the gunsmith says "Hey, Yos, you've got a gun, are you scum?" I can say "Nope, I do have a gun but that's because I'm a backup cop/vig/gun owning crazy loner/gunsmith." Leaves it much more open to debate then a normal cop role, which I think makes the role great. In an open role game like that, however, that wouldn't really work. I see the gunsmith in that setup as being basically a regular cop, with the only disadvantage being that he can't tell if the vig is scum or not.

Adele, check out Open Role XL for some ideas. (The game was skewed a bit in the town's favor, but was otherwise good, IMO).

I am considering running Arthurian Legend type game.

I thought it might be good to do this based on "The Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley for a central basis since Arthurian legend tends to differ dependent on who is telling the story.

Would anyone be interested in this?

Has anyone ever heard of Harry Turtledove and his "Darkness" series?

The fantastical world where Derlavai fights a WWII-like war with dragons and leviathans and magic instead of airplanes and submarines and technology?

I'm thinking of someday maybe running a game based on the viewpoint charecters from the first two books.

Yeah, that was a pretty neat series. I don't really remember the characters individually too well, but sure, it'd sound like fun.

Hey, do I get to sacrifice huge numbers of innocent people in nightmarish magical rituals in order to nuke the enemy?

makeovers. pillowfights. truth or dare. yep, it's sleepover season. yay!

except, you know what teenage girls are like, don't you? i wouldn't be surprised if amidst the hours spent with popcorn giggling at cute guys in generic hollywood romantic comedies, there was a bit of murdering going on. well, you know what they say - fight fire with fire! or in this case, fight stabbings with hangings.

and of course, what with this being a party and all, you're gonna stay up all night until you're really partied out.

LIGHTS OUT MAFIA 2 - THE SLEEPOVER SLAUGHTERS
heralds the triumphant return of the lights out mechanic - which means you get as many lynches each day as you want. the twists being, 1) you don't find out who the dead guys' roles until night falls, and 2) you only get a week to decide the lynch, or it goes to night.

for those who played last time, there are some developments - the survivor mechanic (have to be alive to win) is gone, and the game is not mountainous - there are power roles. slightly different power roles to normal though, and this is still (rolewise) a low power game. semi-open setup too - it's still 4 mafia, 16 town, no fancy alignments.

edit: brite to mod obv.
The hungry maw of Twilight snaps, but shall not have its fill,
Until one man hangs by his neck, by half this curs'd town's will
