Yeah, that's kinda her strong part, but for the second part to work she has to be in melee range.

ok so her second part she needs to be in melee range, so what. she has an AS steroid with a small heal for each one of her spiderlings attacks. Going melee isn't a problem. You also get free armor and mr! Also free magic damage on autos!

you can human form q-->e-->w spider form q---w.

So we're having a slight bot lane issue on our ranked team. The problem seems to come from the fact that our AD Carry, though REALLY REALLY good at his role, only plays aggressively, even when the opposing matchup doesn't call for it. And it works... 99% of the time. But I just don't know how to teach him to slow things down. His idea is to have Grimm pick a Nunu or Leona and just dive on whoever the squishiest is in the lane against him. It creates some problems for the rest of us, since sometimes, you just can't play aggressively against certain teamcomps.

We're also having trouble coming up with a viable teamcomp that we all like other than "AOE teamfight comp".

Spoiler: Staglaf guide
you build deeps
then you build health
then you build movement speed
then you run at them and they die

Really, though - you start boots+3/4 (unless you want to clownfuck around w/ longsword and a pot... hue), then you either go:
Phage, if you're winning your matchup and want to /wrists over the other person's face;
Wriggle's, if you're jungling or the matchup is going even and is against an ad person;
Hexdrinker, if you're in an even matchup with an ap person;
Gp10s, if you're losing the matchup (you normally go for 2 - HoG and philo -, but you can go for 3; go for 4 only in case of extreme clownfuckery);
Ninja tabi+Dshields if you're SERIOUSLY getting your ass handed to you by an ad person who can just towerdive you when you're on full hp (should never happen, but).
I guess you could sometimes go for a brutalizer, but I personally dislike doing that - your E is going to be your main source of damage early as toplaf and as junglelaf you won't have enough money to afford one.

Got those?
If you got anything other than a phage, get a phage, and if you already have one, get a lifesteal scepter and proceed to the next steps. Upgrade your boots - ninja tabi if the enemy AD/physical jungler is strong, otherwise zerker's or swifties for more running at them. Other than that, there's a split, again:
Go for bloodthirster if you're eating the other person's face on a constant basis and there is nothing on their team fed enough to burst you down (this very rarely happens, but it does).
A warmog's if your team needs something really beefy to soak up damage - I used to really like warmog's, but you sacrifice quite a bit of running-at-them potential by doing it.
A frozen mallet otherwise.

Now you should probably get some MR and AR - my favorites are atma's and maw of malthatguy. You should at some point get either a zeke's or a bloodthirster that would replace the possible wriggle's.

At some point, try to fit in a yomomma's blade somewhere in there - I usually get this after the frozen mallet, but I suspect that this wouldn't work in a level where people aren't drooling on their keyboards.

As for skills, you always open with Q. After that, it depends on the lane - if you can actually hit your opponent in semi-melee range, go for E. If not, W. After that, if you can successfully trade with the opponent and he can't sustain better than you, max E with points in Q - if not, max Q with points in W. Get R when possible.

Take (one of ghost/flash)+(one of smite/ignite/exhaust/teleport) depending on matchup and your feeling of how much clownfuckery you can get away with in the game.

...I kinda felt like typing that.

Boots -> Madred's/Wriggles -> Tabi -> Warmog's. Grab a Hex/Maw, sell Wriggles for BT - get the Hex earlier and skip Wriggle's if against AP. Pick two of GA/FoN/FHeart/Randuin's - grab the HoG early if you're building Randuin's, as it helps get Warmog's quicker, but FHeart is better on Olaf. Can also wait to sell Wriggle's until after defensive items if needed. Mallet is good too if you have tanks/offtanks, instead of Warmog's.

Alternatively, support-ish Olaf works: Boots -> HoG -> Philo. Get a Phage/Mallet, then upgrade the GP10s. Grab GA and FoN/Maw.

Jungle Olaf grabs Wriggles and an Aegis (provided the support doesn't grab it).

If you don't need FHeart and your support isn't building it, Zeke's Herald is also good as a Wriggle's replacement.

Brutalizer and Triforce can also work if you're snowballing/need a lot of damage.

(note: I don't play Olaf)
(pedit: ninja'd by the guy that kinda plays a lot of Olaf iirc)

Spoiler: Top Lane Kayle guide
Okay, so. I said I would write a Kayle guide when people were putting together a compendium of information and finally got around to it. Yay!

SUMMONERS:

Ignite
/
Ghost
.
Flash
only if they have tons of snares or it's a lane you can't towerdive, or if there's any other reason that you can't be aggressive.

MASTERIES:

Rincent Masteries;
19
/
11
/
0
. Grab Summoner's and the AD stuff up to ArPen (only 2 points in lifesteal) in Offense, armor/Tough Skin, healthstuff and Indomitable in Defense.

Rincent wrote:I go 19/11/0, which I call the Rincent masteries. I'm the only one I know of that runs these masteries, and it's so good that HotshotGG even once called it "retarded masteries"(lololol).

It revolves around maximizing your lane presence while barely affecting your mid-late game. When it comes to soloque, it is about dominating early game and snow balling the game in your favor. That's my strategy in soloque so the whole guide will revolve around early game into a strong late game.

You will probably ask why the f am I running these strange masteries over 21 offense. Well if you do the math the -2 creep damage will significantly decrease the damage you take in lane.

In a situation where you're harassing the enemy and 6 creeps suddenly turn to attack you, you're taking 12 dmg less. Now in a more committed fight, you'll be taking at least 3 hits from each creep, usually more. That's a 36 dmg drop. When you're constantly trading, this adds up to HUNDREDS which would cost you pots.

The biggest part is when you freeze lanes. To freeze 6+ creeps, you will be getting hit MANY times. You're looking at 6 creeps hitting you for 5+ times in 1 freeze. that's 6x5x4(120) less damage taken from ONE freeze. You'll be so happy hat you ran -4 creep dmg. In the long run, you'll stay in lane longer AND you'll be able to effectively shut down your enemy.

RUNES:

AS reds
,
Armor yellows
,
MR blues
,
MS or AD quints
.
I've found you can run quite a few different rune combinations on her. I've tried a few variations including AD+ArPen reds, Hybrid Pen reds, etc.. In addition, I have my MR blues split between flat and scaling; take flat if you're against an AP top. Play around with rune combos against easier lanes and see what works best for your playstyle or matchup.

SKILLS:

Passive
: stacking armor and MR debuff with each attack

Q
is a nuke that slows enemies and increases the damage you do to them.

W
is a heal/speedbuff.

E
turns your autos into ranged splash attacks.

R
: 2/2.5/3 second invuln.

E
Q
W
xx
R

I personally like maxing
E
first for sustained harass or if you need to farm, but you can also max
Q
for the increased damage on your nuke. Max
W
first only if you're up against an incredibly difficult lane. You can also grab
W
at lv4 instead.

ITEM BUILD:

Boots + 3(4) pots start,
always
.
First back: DBlades/Vamp Scepters
Core Build: Greaves, IEdge, Zeal, Vamp Scepter
Full Build: Greaves, IEdge, PD, LW, GA, Executioner's Calling OR Bloodthirster OR Zeke's Herald

I've found that grabbing two Vamp Scepters is great if you're having trouble staying in lane. With her E, Kayle can push back waves easily enough that she doesn't NEED the bit of AD from Doran's, and it gives her a nicer chunk of sustain.

Your core is basic AD carry stuff: rush the IEdge and a Zeal. Upgrade the Zeal and grab a LW. Then pick your Vamp upgrade. Lots of champs with sustain and/or BT is too expensive? Executioner's. Heavy AD comp or your carry is dominating? Zeke's. Otherwise, BT. Then grab your GA.

If you're really gonna have a hard time against an AD bruiser, you can grab an early Wriggles and start Cloth5. Personally, I prefer just grabbing another Vamp early and playing super-safe. You can also sub out your IE for a Black Cleaver if your AD is carrying hard or if you have a super AD-heavy team. Or even grab BT
instead
of IE, but I personally don't suggest it. Triforce can also work if you're super-fed and getting focused (or playing for the lulz) but I've never built it.

PLAYSTYLE, TIPS AND TRICKS

-
Harass, harass, harass
. You can shove a good portion of champs out of lane by being aggressive, especially early on. You want them to blow their pots/sustain quicker than you.

- Be a bit more careful early on if you're blueside against a red-start jungler, or purpleside against a jungle Alistar. General tip.

-
Don't push too hard
. I usually suggest leaving your
E
on when possible due to the miniscule amount of mana it takes, however, if you have no wards or vision of their jungler, farm in melee range to avoid ganks. If the enemy jungler has no CC (Shyvana etc.) you can usually get away with a
W
and maybe a
Ghost
/
Flash
, but I wouldn't suggest it, especially pre-6. If you know their jungler is bot and mid isn't coming up for you, feel free to push the other laner to tower to pressure him.

-
Kite and return fire
. If an Olaf smacks you with his true damage,
Q
and
E
-auto him when he turns back. Riven jumps at you?
Q
and back off, then
E
up and harass when she runs away.

-
Learn when to dive
. Typically you want the other top to be at half health or lower, and need to be aware of mid/jungler locations.
Ignite
,
Q
,
ult
,
E
, swing.

- Your
E
will be down when the spell reaches the
5-6 second cooldown mark
. Keep an eye on that so you don't accidentally run in to melee someone.

-
Midgame, push towers
. It's Kayle's forte.

- In teamfights,
W
the initiator
and
ult
whoever's about to get targeted with the most burst
. Unless you miss the opportunity to use it at this point, don't wait and save it till you or someone else is almost dead. Otherwise, play as an AD carry (this includes killing the closest target).

-
Learn your matchups
. I can at least hold my lane against most tops because I've had a decent amount of experience as Kayle. This holds true for most champs, of course, but it's still relevant.

Lanes you poop on
: Vlad, Darius, Singed, Nidalee, GP, Warwick
Average lanes
: Cho, Irelia, Kennen, Malphite, Olaf, Rumble
Annoying/Difficult lanes
: Yorick, Teemo, Volibear, Jax, Lee, Pantheon

---

I was going to include stuff on other lanes but:
- I hate support-Kayle, you don't get enough gold to make her useful
- I'm bad at jungle-Kayle
- I have very little experience with midKayle (basically hybrid. Core is Gunblade and Rageblade, or Wit's if it's a difficult lane, followed by pretty much whatever you want. Runes include HybridPen reds, masteries are still 19/11 but taking the AP -and- AD stuff in Offense.
- AD Carry Kayle isn't great only because you don't have consistent range. Do-able but not great.

That's not how you reacted to Staglaf. It's not like 'Nam, I was there.

It was similar to the reaction you have when I tell you I'm taking Mundo top lane.

Curious on the ONM game last night, without being a dick or coming off as rude..

Do you really think that building tear/cata on Karthus was the right move, and would you do it again in the same situation?
The lane was losing hard and the game was losing fast, building 2 no-ap items, building for the lategame when there pretty clearly isn't going to be a lategame seemed to damn you completely. TF actually helped you out by rushing a LB with no ap, but then he snowballed right into a RDC and instantly became the most powerful person on the map. Karthus as a champ already having such an anemic early game put him and TF on opposite ends of the power curve. Def not trying to single out the mid because that game was a loss and not one person's fault, it just really jumped out at me.

Scrambling for a revolver and/or a blasting wand would have been the best thing you could have done so far behind like that, I know nobody plans to be behind but seems like the build order was set in stone and was a huge detriment. After the tears and clearly behind, should have probably given up on the ROA and started a rylais to bulk up? Just curious because I moved off the AA staff a while ago for myself, when the new Grail came out. I still rush a ROA on karthus but usually go for the cassiopiea special (hextech/rylais) after cause it's just so damned efficient. The DFG nerfs really threw some of my builds into a tailspin so if that's what happened to you, hey its been happening to me a lot too.

If you are looking for people to scrim against, I'd be happy to play a "role" in it, sort of like a scout team, aggressive kill, push and roam, whatever you want to practice against. I could probably grab some interested parties too to flesh out a scrim team. The hardest part for me would probably be picking "tournament viable" mids cause I don't play Ori or TF and I'm sure you see a lot of that shit in your games.

Also that team you played against were dicks.

unless you are building manamune, the only real way to build tear is with a catalyst.

The problem Archangels has, if you want to build it, that isn't not cost effective. Your mana pool is simply too small to make it worth building. Other items give you more value for your gold. The turning point is about a RoA. So, when you have a RoA, suddenly archangels becomes a good buy compared to it's competitors (not a hat, hats are cool after roa as well, as the AP makes it worth it). It slows your early game down a lot, since none of your items actually give you ap then, but the tradeoff is that your lategame AP is close to being as high as it can get.

Now, if your gameplan on Karthus is to sit back till 25 min and farm everything that comes close, that's a build that pays off.
Surrender, imagine and of course wear something nice.
