Something I want to bring up, because it was utterly adorable:
On the N3 result PM,MagnaofIllusion wrote:You come home from a rousing game of “Chase the Ball” to find a box labeled “For the Puppy” on your doorstep. I guess being adorable and fluffy has it’s advantages. Inside is a glass vial with some sort of orange liquid inside. The note attached says something about “moving like lightning while in cloud-like state.

You have received the following abilities

Escape Potion (1-shot, Active) – You may drink this potion on any Night you choose. If you choose to drink it you will be untargettable by any other abilities that Night.

Now to read so much stuff.

Revised Role PMs for various events (never activated :( )

Harley MacFinn changed PM

They did it. Those bastards. They took away the light of your life. Now you have nothing to help ward off the darkness that eats at your very soul. Every single one of them is going to be sorry … the moon is full and you have nothing left to help restrain the beast that lurks within you!

Your role has changed
!

You are now
Harley MacFinn – Limited Paranoid Fully Bulletproof Compulsive Strongman Loup-garou
!

Abilities

No-one is Packing Silver
(Passive) – Being in your transformed state has its advantages. There are few non-silver powers on earth capable of permanently harming you. Any attempt on your life will fail.

Thirst for Blood
(Factional, Active, Compulsive) – Each Night you
MUST
submit a kill attempt on a living players. If you do not submit one by deadline your kill will be randomized among all players living at the start of Night. Unless prevented by extraordinary means that player will be killed.

Lashing Out
(Passive) – Being a mindless killing machine means it is dangerous for anyone to be in your presence. The first player who targets you with an action of any type will be killed in response.

Howl
(Passive) – Despite being a blood-thirsty monster only bent on killing you may vote to lynch each Day.

Wincon

You win when all other players in the game are dead, or nothing can prevent this.

MOD NOTES– Harley is passively Investigation Immune (in that he is not Unseelie or Chicagoland). Harry’s Wizard’s Sight will reveal his third party status. The only way to prevent his Kill is Harry’s 1-shot Shield bracelet. Nothing stops his ‘Lashing Out’ PGO including the bracelet since it is a reflexive action. Lastly he is immune to being killed by the death of someone linked to him via Love Potion. He still may participate in the QT but does not die if he when the other lover does.

Tara West changed PM –

The grief in your heart over Harley’s death causes you almost physical harm. He was a member of your pack and your leader. You will have no peace or rest until you have destroyed those responsible for Harley’s death.

Your role has changed
!

You are now
Tera West – Limited Day-Poisoning Investigating Commuting Wolfwere
!

Abilities

Wild Plants
(Active, Factional, Day) – Three times per game and once per Day you may target a player during the Day with a dose of a highly toxic plant. If successful that player will die after they have made 10 posts after being dosed or when a lynch / no lynch is achieved, whichever comes first.

Scent
(Active) – Each Night you may choose to use your keen Wolf-senses to test whether someone was involved in Harley’s death. If successful you will be told if they are directly involved in Harley’s death.

Transform
(Active) - You really are a wolf who only masquerades as a human. Each Night you may choose to transform into a wolf and take to the woods. You may not be targeted by any Abilities, be they active or factional, while in wolf-form.

Vengeance
(Passive) – Despite being a wolf who doesn’t understand or much care for humanity you may vote to lynch each Day.

Wincon

You win (and leave the game) when everyone involved in Harley’s death has been killed. If Harley is lynched this means everyone who was on his lynching wagon. If Harley is killed at Night this means every member of the faction who killed him (in the case of a non-Town killer) or the person who killed him (in the case of a Town killer).

MOD NOTES – Tera is passively Investigation Immune (in that he is not Unseelie or Chicagoland). Harry’s Wizard’s Sight will reveal her third party status. Her daykill cannot be protected (as it is a Day ability) against. If Tera is made a lover to someone who took part in Harley’s death she does not die when they do.

Bob recruited –

Well this was bound to happen at some point … someone else got their hands on your skull. Well Harry should have kept a better watch over you. It’s not like you’ve ever been particularly picky about what kind of Master you serve.

Your role has changed
!

You are now
Bob – Inventing Spirit of Some Trades for the Unseelie Cabal
!

Abilities

Holder of the Skull
(Factional, Passive) – You have access to the Unseelie Cabal QT. You may speak there at any time.

Summon Mordite
(Factional, Active) – At Night you may choose to target a player for Nightkill. If successful that player will be killed. You may use this ability in conjunction with any other Active Abilities you have.

Boil, Boil, Toil and Trouble
(Active) – You know more about making potions than any Wizard alive. You new Masters don’t exactly keep the stuff you need to brew potions around, either. At Night you may choose to make a potion (if you have any remaining ingredients) and if successful give it to a player of your choice. Being a spirit you can’t exactly use it yourself.

Escape (1 shot) – This nasty tasting but quite effective little number turns the user into a disconnect cloud of particles that can move like lightning. Your target recipient will be completely untargetable by any ability when they use the potion.

8 Centuries of Experience
(Active) – While air spirits are not powerhouses by magical standards your age and wisdom allows you to use several tricks. The strain to your being does limit the number of times you can actually use them. At Night you may choose to use one of your skills (if you have any strength left).

Consult the Spirits (1 shot) – You can call upon the Spirits of the Netherworld to give you a modicum of advice about the goings-on currently happening in Chicago. If successful you will be informed of the number of players on the previous Day’s lynching wagon that are not aligned with the Town.

Ride Along (1 shot) – Mister the Cat is a great vehicle to keep you protected when you want to venture out into Chicago. Plus he doesn’t really care that you’ve gone over to the other side. You may target a player at Night. If successful you will hide within Mister in their vicinity. Keep in mind Mister is just a cat (even if he looks more like a miniature cougar) and harm that comes to your target might cause him harm as well. And if you get caught outside without a body to hide in you a dead spirit floating.

Wisecracks and Bawdy Language
(Passive) - You may vote to lynch each Day.

Wincon

You win when the
Unseelie Cabal
makes up at least half the remaining living players and nothing can change this.

MOD NOTES – He can no longer by killed by Hiding behind a Unseelie Cabal member since they are his allies.

Mortimer Lindquist recruited

That visit late at Night was unexpected. More unexpected was the manner in which your life was threatened. But as much as you like and respect ghosts you don’t want to become one. Given your reputation it wasn’t hard to convince them you’d be more than happy to apply your skills to helping their cause out.

Your role has changed
!

You are now
Mortimer Lindquist, Ectomancer for the Chicagoland Mafia
!

Abilities

Easily Persuaded
(Factional, Passive) – You have access to the Chicagoland Mafia QT. You may speak there at any time.

Spirit Henchman
(Factional, Active) – At Night you may choose to target a player for Nightkill. If successful that player will be killed. You may use this ability in conjunction with any other Active Abilities you have.

Channeling
(Active) – You still have enough magical juice to actually contact the Dead when the need arises. At Night you may choose to target any deceased player who has not been dead more than 1 full cycle (Day and Night). If successful you will enter a QT with that player that lasts the following Day and Night.

Fleecing the Gullible
(Passive) - You may vote to lynch each Day.

Wincon

You win when the
Chicagoland Mafia
makes up at least half the remaining living players and nothing can change this.

Lovers Post Night PM –

It was a magical Night. You don’t know any other way to describe it. You may have thought you were in love before but now you know what true love really is. Despite any differences you might have in beliefs, values, or even dimension of origin one thing is clear … you can’t live without Player X.

Your role PM is now amended to include the following
Abilities

Soul Mate
(Passive) – You are now inexplicably linked with Player X. If one of you were to die the other will kill themselves due to the lack of the other in their life. So protect them at any cost.

Stolen Moments
(Passive) – You may canoodle and share sweet whispered nothings with your perfect other half HERE at any time.
"I am a leaf on the wind ... watch how I soar!"

Pretty much Geriatric game restricted at this point ... unless there are players I REALLY want to play with.

So, Jason was our Traitor, so after sensor result we were doomed anyway, he was also in a lynch pool.

SoO is a munchkin :)

Doctor who cures nobody is evil (though, with all those protections around he wasn't really needed).

Those who want to figure out all the mess between scum, read Chicagoland Mafia QT, everything is there.

I kept a quasi Diary of my thoughts as the game progressed. It was a fun experience and I will probably do it every game.

Evolving Mod Notes – The Dresden Files Mafia

Pre-Game
:

Why this game is a Bastard Game:

1. Mafia Wildcard – a role that has access to both Mafia QTs (and thus knows the identity of all the Mafia in the game) makes this Number 1 with a bullet. Yes, it isn’t as bad as Infiltrator type roles but it still is probably not expected.
2. Surprise Killers – The Mason pair who can turn into either an impossible to kill aside from lynch Serial Killer or a very tough to kill Modified Serial Killer (who can win with anyone) after being confirmed Town is bastard for all parties involved.
3. Millers not told they are Millers. Duh.
4. Townies not told they are recruitable by Scum. Duh.
5. A number of other lies or misleading language in role PMs – the Cops aren’t explicitly told they only work on half the scum, Michael Carpenter is a Fruit Vendor, etc.

I was amused by Shmugen’s rather prescient “SOMEDAY I will be masons or mafia with Tierce/Vi.” made in his confirmation PM. Also the fact that he said his Bulletproof status would probably not work is funny given it only works on half the kills.

Day 1
:

So Klick as an Investigation Immune role asks for a Serial Killer and Miller fake-claim for both her actual role and her safe-name. WTF is that?

Not sure why ICENinja drew such a quick L-1 wagon. Yes his “smartest post gets votes” response was rather touchy but not something I would have voted.

Vi’s poist 6 from the Masons QT is a nice early read on kortul-scum.

It is interesting to see how people react to GreyICE. Early on he was “OMG, ICENinja claimed scum” and called out the jasonT1981 counterwagon as terrible. Yet he softly hops of the ICENinja wagon to vote pidgey for whatever minor reason and has said nothing now that the jasonT wagon really took off.

sword_of_omens sent me a very entertaining PM. As Harry Dresden he has a pretty awesome role and Bastard paranoia is working on him. He’s thinking about all the ways that his powers could backfire. And he’s really creative in doing so – He’s worried his Soulgaze reveals his identity to his target and that if he kills a human the White Council will kill him (both very reasonable hidden mechanics IMO, just not implemented). It will be interesting to see how strongly he lets paranoia possibly blunt the strongest Town role in the game.

ICENinja’s 208 is legitimately such a terrible point I don’t understand how it came from him. It’s been awhile since we played together (way, way back in Wolframhart’s Mini Normal and in a Newbie Game at least a year ago) but I remember him as being a more solid player than this.

Sword’s 241 is a great catch on Grey – he’s contradicted himself accidentally. Sword once again impresses me with his reads. I need to watch his reads if we play in a game together again.

AAANNNNNDD CKD has just made the decision to side with the Chicagoland Mafia and out himself to them. Not the decision I would have made but let’s see where it goes …

So CKD is now getting pressure and has requested an Anti-Cult fake-claim. That’s an interesting move given I specifically said ‘No Cults’ in the Sign-up thread. He did mention it in the Unseelie QT so let’s see if anyone prompts him of that fact. Even for a Bastard game with me as the Mod I think an Anti-Cult role in a game without Cults is stretching it.

Kimor is really risking getting lynched for being so passive / reactive.

As of Vote Count 1.10 scum are being voted by 12 of the 18 votes. That’s a sign that scum is doing it wrong.

Shamrock’s , specifically “I also still dislike CKD's hop on the GreyICE wagon. It looks incredibly forced to me, although honestly I could see them being scum together if CKD thought that GreyICE really did slip and that he had no choice but to bus there.”, literally nails it right on the head. Nice read there.

ICENinja’s should be spurring him to look closer at Klick. Because from my spoiled vantage point he is clearly trying to provide a minimum of content. Which is not Pro-Town.

I find it ironic that 3 days to the extended deadline and the top three voting wagons are the ENTIRE Unseelie Cabal team. And as of the Vote Count at 615 every vote in the game that is currently active is on the Unseelie Cabal in totality. I had to stop myself from chuckling as I made that Vote Count. Not a good start to the game for one Mafia Faction.

This whole “I’m a Daycop and have a Nightkill” debacle that Klick got going really has me pretty much back on the “Mod Blacklist” him train of thought. There was no reason to pull that when he did and frankly all these rather absurd fake-claims he has concocted as a Investigation Immune player with the best natural cover available (Karrin Murphy) and his early QT “Lulz lets all claim Millers” shows me he either isn’t capable or doesn’t care about the effort I put into this game.

So now CKD spilled the beans to Thor. See CKD … this is why choosing the team with Klick early on just because they were active wasn’t the best of ideas … Thor and GreyICE would have made a KILLER group to work with.

Day 1 ends with a lynch on absentee GreyICE. Town did very well today with mostly scum drawing the lion’s share of serious suspicions.

Night 1
-

In a PM to me discussing his thoughts and possible Night action sword sent me the following line

“Although, if Stefan gets killed tonight i'm going to hate myself... and blame it all on you, of course...”

He had considered protecting StefanB but opted to do something else. Had he protected Stefan it would have been successful and quite possibly Thor would have been lynched (although scum would have found sword’s identity through Thor’s Watch).

Fatlikepig missed a chance to catch all the scum on the GreyICE wagon by not using the Sensus last Night. Being able to power-lynch / sort claims off that wagon would have been a goldmine.

Day 2

ICENinja seems to be completely confused by the fact flavor doesn’t neatly tie to the books. Can’t wait to see his reaction to Konowa’s flip / claim.

Klick’s ususual play Day 1 is catching up with both scum teams today. Only players getting any sort of focus are Thor and Klick.

I love the whole discussion about “Not knowing purple as Town = scum” given that I provided it fully in for everyone to see. All those who went “Huh, what alignment” are Town as of the moment they posted it.

As of Thor is at L-2 and has never requested a fake-claim. Interesting to see how that works out for him.

So now that SOO has outed his Fairy information Klick looks to be on the ropes. He basically threatening to out Thor as he goes down for fear that CKD will side with Thor (which is a valid fear, as it stands since CKD is working close with Thor in the QT). CKD sent me a freak-out PM. I didn’t respond then because it really would interfere with the game flow but here is my summarized thoughts –

“Dear CKD,

I understand that you feel like things are falling apart with Klick threatening to take out Thor as he goes to lynch. That is a totally valid fear as it reduces the already weakened power of scum in general and reduces your chances of winning. That said – this should be a lesson that you probably shouldn’t have made such an early commitment to one side and spilled the beans. Frankly I think Klick’s “Lets all claim Millers for Lulz” early on should have been a big warning sign about the kind of play to expect from him. You didn’t heed those and were more worried about Daytalk in the early stages of Day 1 and I think it cost you.

Sorry it turned out this way but I wouldn’t have chosen the route you did.”

So SOO sent me another funny “Here’s my thoughts PM”. I am really enjoying them and wanted to share this particular bit that again made me chuckle …

“Meanwhile...Pidgey looks scummy as hell this game”

He’s managed to single out the player who sent him the Fairy information that helped nail Klick … :D

SOO’s information did indeed out Klick and get him to self-hammer. I’m curious what Klick’s bomb “Thor is aligned with GreyICE, his partner told me so” will elicit. On one hand it is a Bastard game. On the other hand you have “Dying Scum WIFOM”.

Night 2

So in the Mason QT 32 Tierce has pretty much worked out all the scum (Thor / CKD / has kortul in the pool), even if it is for some questionable reasons (Klick being partners with Thor?). Interesting to see if they do end up dying.

Early Night actions by scum look to be a wash. They aren’t killing the most dangerous roles left (Masons / ICENinja Cop) but aren’t missing a kill (CKD killed greenknight from the correct faction). If Konowa shoots scum tonight or pidgey asks a good question the game could be pretty much PoEd with the Sensus results from fatlikepig.

Day 3

I think Town has this game in the bag. The only way scum really pulls this out is a back to back combo of

1. Killing one of the Masons to add more kills to the mix and pray their kills target Town.
2. Recruiting Jason

And I don’t see the second option as likely.

The day ends with a whimper when Konowa hammers (I would guess to not drag things out of Thanksgiving). Frankly with the remaining bits of the set-up I would guess scum really have no chance to win as the obvious kill choice is Sixty who unleashes ABR as a killer against only kortul.

Night 3

I think kortul’s decision to NOT kill the Mason is going to cost him this late in the game when claims start flowing in. Although those that know Dresden flavor might go for his Morgan flavor.

Tierce posted the following in the Mason QT (43) and I literally laughed out loud

“So if we die Tonight, good luck, and avenge us.”

If only she knew how spot on this throwaway line is to the set-up.

And unless something changes the Night actions are going to pretty much assure a Town victory. Both kortul and Konowa’s kills are going to fail and Sixty is going to get the “Untargettable” potion from fatlikepig.

Day 4

If a mass-claim does happen I think it pretty much screws kortul big-time. Too many players in the “Meh, maybe scum” pool have claims that can clear them to enough of a degree I see him left holding the bag.

From post 11 in the Channeling QT per ICENinja

"I honestly have NO idea how I died, though. I literally can't think of a single character who kills or was killed in the first couple books via a broken neck. My best guess is redscum sent in a kill from Hendrix, who is a bodyguard built like a linebacker. I suppose it's reasonable to say he would break someone's neck as opposed to shooting someone (which he did indeed do in the first book, so blah)."

This is some first class flavor analysis. Too bad it came after he died :D

I really wonder if Sixty’s “JasonT is confirmed Town” talk might influence a shot in that direction by kortul to “silence the fairy”? It seems like a stretch with Masons still out there but it would be a huge swing in his favor. The other option would be to Jailkeep pidgey to prevent the Fairy from going out. Very interested to see where kortul goes with his Nighttime decision based on the claims and what he knows.

At pidgey really nails the Duality Conceit I was going for in the game with his spot on assessment of how the Carmichael / Mac Bulletproof worked. It should be an insight into how the game as a whole was structured if anyone wanted to run with it.

Night 4

Make or break time for kortul. He doesn’t make the right combination of moves (Jailkeeping to keep Town from getting too much information, killing one of either Jason or less beneficially ABR) and his side has zero chance of victory.

Actually the one thing he has going for him from Night 3 was that Sword missed his action there. He would have True Investigated Sixty and confirmed her Town. As it stands with Sixty using the Escape potion if Sword tries tonight he gets nada and loses his ability for Night 5.

Day 5

And today is just a formality. A shame so much of the fun of the set-up never got to see the light of day.

@Shamrock
re – No, you were completely correct to not trust that you actually are a Doctor. The weasel wording was definitely there for a reason.

For the record I still have no idea why Jason thinks he was only 1-shot. He could have used his ability every Night.

If only Jason said so, i would kill him the very first thing :)

MoI, after sensor result was outed, i was stuck anyway. Killing FLP would confirm the result, and blocking pidgey is useless - everyone would decide that scum got the result and decided to keep silent. My chance was to find traitor in a "cleared" pool - then either pidgey Fairy will report that FLP was wrong (and i will be saved in process), or Fairy will report that FLP was right (and traitor will have chances to win the game).

(>")> Massive props to Vi for having spotted the Serial Killer break in our flavor. I thought it was possible, then doubted its likelihood as the game went on. I was surprised that Tera was a potential SK as well, though.

Someone big and bad was missing, and made me a tad paranoid at end: Kravos, the Nightmare. I was expecting
something
to go wrong there.

See, I had a reason to keep pidgey from sending us the question's answer.

And yes, that major obvTown push on D4 was on purpose, because we had the Commuter potion. We wanted to absorb a night-kill.

Other things (so many things about this game all at once wooo):

Yes, the D1 and D2 non-obtrusive play was intentional. Vi kept saying "you're being obvTown again" >.>
Masons are at their best when they can confirm themselves later in the game, and we didn't want to eat a NK that early. I kind of got carried away in that (very magnificent, haters to the left) GreyICE case and started being an element. Good thing it didn't have drastic results with lots of claws and angry teeth~

Konowa, read our Mason QT, especially the points on you.

Thanks for modding, MoI. Well done to our fellow Town.

Sixty, you were targeted for being a potential traitor, not for being obv town. Other than that, i had a feeling you were trying to attract a kill since day 2.

Just took a look at second mafia QT - so CKD actually sided with Thor, as i suspected. It's like he was playing against both win conditions in the end :(

MoI, the setup was bastard indeed, a pity that all of your role changes didn't trigger, it would be fun. Thanks for the game.

Hey, if it does the trick, I have no complaints about the reasons~

I defend that our claim and my following post are the best posts in the game. /)U^_^U/)

And... yeah, we were going "huh,
Morgan
, powerhouse killer-warden, a 'field-medic'--come again?"

And talking about the flavor, we were pretty much screwed if we flipped to SK mode after claiming, as it would likely be a very obvious loup-garou kill.

GG all!

Thanks for the game MoI, very interesting setup. I was wondering how town could have so much power until I saw the alignment shifts. Shame we didn't see a lot of the mechanics in action due to scum self-destructing. At least the scum QTs are pretty entertaining.

Sorry tierce, but I can't help but find your puppy shtick annoying :p Your best post was clearly the one where you called out CKD as scum on day 3, I quite liked that one!

At one point I thought "You know, Masons where if EITHER dies the other becomes an SK would be a cool role" but the immediate next thought was "but why would Tera flip?".
Everything you say and do matters. People will respond in ways you may never see. May those responses be what you intend.

Confirmed mason turning into a paranoid bulletproof SK is insane, and I'm glad that didn't happen in the game...
